  • Patent number: 11274464
Abstract: A modular safety shelter provides protection from fragment, overpressure, radiation, and toxic hazards through a combination of physical design of modular segments, of joint seals between modular segments, of door assemblies, and of HVAC control systems. The modular shelter is formed of two or more prefabricated concrete modular segments each including a built-in foundation, roof, and side walls, and a prefabricated concrete vestibule segment providing an airlock-like access to the shelter. The prefabricated modular segments and vestibule segment are transported to a site and assembled to each other on-site to provide a fully enclosed space within the modular shelter. A multi-layer joint seal is formed between adjacent modular segments to prevent ingress of toxic, flammable, or thermal hazards. An integrated HVAC controller monitors toxic or flammable hazards outside and inside of the shelter, and controls HVAC systems to minimize spread of contaminants upon detecting a hazard.

  • Publication number: 20110016799
Abstract: A hinged vapor wall for use in mobile living quarters having a main living area and a secondary area such as a garage. The vapor wall has a first and second section that overlap to form a barrier between the garage and the main living area. When the sections of the vapor wall are in their closed position, the main living area and the garage area are divided into separate airtight compartments. Typically, small vehicles such as motorcycles and ATVs are placed in the garage, and the fumes from their fuel may spread into the main living space in the absence of a barrier. A permanent barrier sacrifices space within the main living area. The hinged vapor wall of this invention is movable to an open position when small vehicles are not being stored in the garage, enabling the garage to be used as living space as well.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a polygonal rib structure having ribs directed orthogonal to one plane and intersecting each other to form polygonal shapes. More particularly, to a shock absorbing polygonal rib structure. In a polygonal rib structure having ribs directed orthogonal to one plane and intersecting each other to form polygonal shapes, a thickened central portion located at a substantially central portion in the longitudinal direction of each side of the polygonal rib is bisected. The opposed parting surfaces formed upon the bisection are spaced from each other to form an opening portion, and each side of the polygonal rib is so shaped that the cross-sectional area of the opening portion is reduced as one goes from the opening end toward the depth. Thus, an opened polygonal rib structure is formed.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system, or kit, of injection molded panels having integrated connectors which combine to form an enclosure, commonly in the form of a utility shed. The panels are formed of injection molded plastic to interlock with one another without the need for separate I-beam connectors. The ends of the wall panels have cavities to accept both roof and floor outwardly projecting locking bosses for interlocking cooperative engagement which serve to rigidly connect the components together. The symmetry of the wall, roof, floor and door components also minimizes component shapes and simplifies enclosure construction.

Abstract: A portable building has a first side wall 1, a second side wall 2, a pair of end walls 3 and 4, a floor, and overlapping roof parts 5 and 6. The first side wall 1 is able to move in a direction away from the second side wall 2 with the result that space within the building is substantially increased. The building is formed such that as the first side wall 1 moves the overlap between the roof parts 5 and 6 reduces so as to accommodate the increased space within the building. Movement of the first side wall 1 creates substantial wall openings between the first side wall 1 and the end walls 3 and 4. The openings are closed off with doors, a panels, windows, or any combination of these, in each case made to match the wall openings.

Abstract: An integrally formed riser pan member for use as a modular component within an access passageway for an on-site waste disposal system, such as a septic tank, to receivably retain a secondary cover member within, the riser pan member including a cylindrical body having an upper portion having a vertical wall member adapted to receive another modular passageway component thereon, and a lower portion which includes an integral pan portion to seatably receive a secondary cover member. The riser pan member further includes an annular ring between the upper and lower portions. The riser pan member can be employed as a lowermost, a highermost, or as an intermediate component in, for example, an access passageway formed of multiple stackable riser members. In addition, the riser pan member may be formed integrally with a stackable riser member.

Abstract: An access control system includes first and second portable containers. The first portable container comprises a first sidewall opening and the second portable container comprises a second sidewall opening. The portable containers are arranged such that the first sidewall opening in the first portable container communicates with the second sidewall opening in the second portable container. The first portable container comprises a passing room disposed in the first portable container. The passing room includes a barrier device located in the walkway defining a first space between a first passing room opening and the barrier device, and a second space between the barrier device and a second passing room opening. The access control system is constructed such that when the access control system is disposed between a first area and an enclosed second area ingress and egress from and to the second area is controlled by the access control system.
