Abstract: A process for preparing a PET flake mixture for use in connection with the fabrication of high-performance plastic strapping comprises the steps of initially collecting post-consumer and non-post-consumer PET materials having an initially wide range of relatively low intrinsic viscosity (IV) values with a relatively low average intrinsic viscosity (IV) value, and processing the same through solid state polymerization (SSP) so as to obtain a wide range of relatively high intrinsic viscosity (IV) values with a relatively high average intrinsic viscosity (IV) value. The initially collected materials are chopped into flakes and chunks, and the chunks are removed by a suitable destoner so as to render the remaining mixture comprised substantially entirely of flake materials or segments.

Abstract: The invention relates to the conversion of a mixed plastic waste by means of mechanical treatment of the starting material mixture in the presence of a mineral oil. The essence of the invention consists therein that a crushed plastic waste mixture containing about 20% by weight of low density polyethylene with a softening point below 150° C. is heat-treated in an oily medium in an apparatus exerting intense kneading-moulding effect at a temperature between 150° C. and 250° C. under vigorous stirring until the formation of a quasi-homogenous, liquid-phase or meltphase bitumen-like material, then separating the bitumen-like material obtained.
Abstract: A process for cleaning plastic materials is disclosed, in which foreign materials adhered on and internally intruded into the plastic materials are cleaned to recycle the plastic materials. The process for cleaning plastics to recycle them according to the present invention includes the following steps. (1) A first cleaning is carried out on roughly crushed plastics of a size of 2-3 cm by using a solvent within a dumbler. (2) The solvent is discharged out of the dumbler after the first cleaning. (3) A second cleaning is carried out on the plastics by using a solvent within the dumbler after the first cleaning. (4) The solvent is discharged out of the dumbler after the second cleaning. (5) The plastics are dried after the second cleaning by injecting a heated nitrogen gas into the dumbler. (6) The nitrogen gas is discharged out of the dumbler under a reduced pressure, whereby contamination materials adhered on surfaces and internally intruded are cleaned.

The initially collected materials are chopped into flakes and chunks, and the chunks are flattened so as to render the remaining mixture comprised substantially entirely of flake materials or segments. This is advantageous because the flake segments, as opposed to the chunk segments, are able to be substantially increased in intrinsic viscosity (IV) values and within a relatively short period of time.

Abstract: Process for recycling an article based on at least one vinyl chloride polymer, in which:
(a) the article is shredded into fragments having an average dimension of 1 cm to 50 cm, should it exceed these dimensions;
(b) the fragments of the article, which are substantially dry, are brought into contact with a substantially anhydrous solvent capable of dissolving the vinyl chloride polymer, forming an azeotrope with water;
(c) the polymer dissolved in the solvent is precipitated by injecting steam in the solution thus obtained, which moreover leads to the stripping of the water-solvent azeotrope and so leaves behind a mixture essentially consisting of water and of solid polymer particles;
(d) the polymer particles are recovered.
