Abstract: A method is disclosed for the preparation of ceramic materials or articles by the pyrolysis of preceramic polysilanes wherein the preceramic polysilanes are rendered infusible prior to pyrolysis by exposure to ultraviolet irradiation in the presence of a reactive gas selected from the group consisting of ethylene, 1,3-butadiene, 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene, 1,4-pentadiene, silane, chlorosilane, dichlorosilane, boron trichloride, oxygen and water mixture, acetylene, and tetravinylsilane. This method is especially suited for the preparation of ceramic fibers. The ceramic fiber's surface properties can be modified by the practice of this invention; for example, a ceramic fiber with a carbon rich surface layer can be obtained when 1,3-butadiene is used as the reactive gas.

Abstract: An electroconductive polymeric material comprises a dispersion of dicyclopentadienyl iron in a vinyl chloride resin having (--CH.sub.2 --CHCl--) structure in the molecular chain or a vinylidene chloride resin having (--CH.sub.2 --CCl.sub.2 --) structure in the molecular chain irradiated with light having ultraviolet rays. This electroconductive polymeric material can easily be molded because it gels under heating, and can also be formed into a film by dissolving it in an organic solvent and evaporating the solvent after casting or spreading. Doping the electroconductive polymeric material with an anionic dopant after the irradiation provides optical response characteristics with further improved electroconductivity.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of synthesizing a bigraft compolymer based on grafted type peracid polymer, which comprises graft polymerizing a first ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing a carboxyl group onto a polymer substrate having a form of a membrane, particulate or tube; oxidizing the carboxyl groups of the resulting graft polymer into peracids; and then graft polymerizing a second ethylenically unsaturated monomer onto the grafted chain of the graft polymer through the decomposition of the peracid. Surface profile and morphology of the bigraft copolymer membrane product is also investigated by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy respectively.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for hot curing thermosetting resins and vulcanizable elastomers, based on the use of perfluoropolyethers in the liquid state as heat transfer media.

Abstract: A contact lens comprising a lens substrate in shape of a lens which comprises a triorganovinylsilane based polymer, said lens substrate having a hydrophilic polymeric chain grafted onto the surface thereof. This contact lens is not only excellent in oxygen permeability, mechanical strength, dimensional stability, vision correcting ability, staining resistance and handleability, but also good in affinity with eyes due to good hydrophilic property possessed by the surface, which can be worn continuously for a long time.
Abstract: A solid photopolymerizable composition, contains addition polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer, initiating system, polymer binder and a microgel wherein preferably the binder and microgel form substantially a single phase and have a similar glass transition temperature above 25.degree. C. Although less preferred the solid composition can function without the binder. A preferred use is as a photoresist.
Abstract: s-Triazine compounds, the molecule of which contains at least one ethylenically unsaturated group and at least one 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine group can be grafted onto organic polymers, in particular onto polyolefines, in the presence of free-radical formers or by means of irradiation. Examples of free-radical formers are peroxy or azo compounds. If polyunsaturated piperidine-triazine compounds are used, it is also possible to achieve crosslinking of the polymer, particularly in the case of polyethylene.
