The hydrogel lens body comprises or is made of a polymeric material having 1,2- and/or 1,3-diol moieties, and the hydrophilic copolymer comprises arylborono-containing repeating units each having a boronic acid group. The coating is covalently-attached to the hydrogel lens body through cyclic boronic ester linkages each formed between one boronic acid group and one 1,2-diol or 1,3-diol group. The soft contact lens has a surface lubricity higher than the surface lubricity of the lens body.

    Abstract: Ultraviolet light-curable deposits are printed onto a substrate in a predetermined pattern to make tactile marks (e.g. Braille-like resin dots) for use by people with impaired vision to, for example, recognize the denominations of banknotes. The deposit demonstrates high adhesion due to: (1) presence of 20-80% (wt.) of a low viscosity acrylate component to provide a substrate-penetrating property; and, (2) 2-30% (wt.) of an adhesion-promoting acid acrylate. The deposit material further includes 1-30% (wt.) of urethane acrylate, 1-30% by weight of reactive diluent, photoinitiator and 1-10% (wt.) of rheological adsorbing additive. Optimally, the adhesion promoter is added after the other components have been mixed with the rheological additive. The printing step may be followed by heating before the curing step to increase penetration of the ink into the substrate. The deposit may comprise a taggant for use as a security feature.

    Abstract: A radiation-curable acrylate-modified aminoamide resin which is the Michael addition product of an aminoamide thermoplastic polymer derived from a polymerised unsaturated fatty acid with a polyol ester having at least three (meth)acrylate ester groups, the aminoamide thermoplastic polymer having an amine number of from 40 to 60 mgKOH/g, the ratio of the initial (meth) acrylate groups of the polyol ester to the initial amino functional groups of the aminoamide polymer being at least 4:1, is liquid at 25° C., and is useful as the resin component of various types of energy-curable coating composition, including inks, varnishes and lacquers, especially lithographic inks.
