  • Patent number: 11259993
Abstract: The present invention comprises a new material used to form semi-rigid shapes. The new material comprises a specific blend of materials and a method of making the blend pertaining to temperatures and conditions. Items made of or comprising the new material in accordance with the invention will exhibit both suitable rigidity and durability along with long-lasting flavor to be used in the construction of a number of items, including teething devices, drinking cups, drinking straws and other utensils. The material itself and the inventive devices may be used to flavor other foods. For example, a teething device made from the flavor infused material encourages the child to use the device for longer periods, thereby providing better relief than prior art teethers. Flavored straws may be employed to add, or provided to blend, the flavor of the straw with the flavor of the liquid pulled through the straw. The flavor character is expected to last a minimum of 6 months and typically at least to 2 years or more.

  • Patent number: 8927617
Abstract: A film formed from a water-soluble polymer matrix within which is contained at least one fragrance is provided. The film is water-sensitive (e.g., water-soluble, water-dispersible, etc.) so that upon contact with a sufficient amount of water, the polymer matrix loses its integrity over time to increasingly expose the fragrance to the ambient environment for releasing its odor. The ability to incorporate a fragrance into the polymer matrix is achieved in the present invention by controlling a variety of aspects of the film construction, including the nature of the fragrance, the nature of the water-soluble polymer, the manner in which the polymer matrix and fragrance are melt processed, etc. For example, the fragrance may be injected directly into the extruder and melt blended with the water-soluble polymer. In this manner, the costly and time-consuming steps of pre-encapsulation or pre-compounding of the fragrance into a masterbatch are not required.

Abstract: An article for sequential dispensing of vapors, notably evaporable fragrances, comprises separated first and second liquids (22, 24). Liquid (22) issues first. Its evaporation may be assisted by a wick (26). The simultaneous evaporation of the second liquid is prevented by an intermediate liquid phase (20). As liquid (22) issues the liquid levels change and there comes a point at which the intermediate phase can no longer prevent the second liquid (24) from flowing past it, to the region from which it can be evaporated. Solids, especially gels, may be employed instead of liquids (22, 24).

  • Patent number: 7825169
Abstract: A water-absorbent composition includes: a specific plant extract; a water-absorbent resin whose surface portion and/or periphery thereof is treated; and/or a water-absorbent resin having a specific property. Specifically, it is preferable to use a water-absorbent resin having three characteristics: (1) a specific neutralization rate, (2) a specific particle diameter, and (3) a specific plant extract. The water-absorbent composition has a superior deodorant performance and an absorbent characteristic when the water-absorbent composition is used (provided) in an absorbing product such as a paper diaper, thereby providing a superior deodorant performance and a superior absorbent characteristic to the foregoing absorbing product.

  • Patent number: 7776939
Abstract: The polymeric nanoparticles including olfactive components have a glass temperature of >50° C. They are obtainable by continuously adding a monomer component and an olfactive component to an aqueous solution. The aqueous solution comprises a first initiator and an emulsifier. The added components are distributed in the aqueous solution to obtain reaction mixture while the polymerization of the monomer component is started at the first temperature. The liquid monomer component and the olfactive component are added continuously while a second initiator is added dropwise to the reaction mixture and the first temperature is maintained. After terminating the addition of liquid monomer component and the olfactive component the temperature of the reaction mixture is increased to a second temperature and a third initiator is added dropwise.

  • Patent number: 7700665
Abstract: The fragrant gel polymer system is a process where a complete fragrance formulation remains whole and is then blended with either a polymer or a cross-linking agent. The non-fragrance carrying polymer is then liquefied and made homogenous with a solvent. The solvents modify viscosity and ease the mixing of the non-fragrance carrying polymer with the fragrance carrying polymer. The method also provides surfactants and wetting agents for further integration and mixing of the fragrance oils with either the polymer or the cross-linking agent during the steps of the process. Mixing of the fragrance carrying polymer and the non-fragrance polymer results in a gel that sets in less time and with less syneresis than existing processes.

  • Patent number: 7651763
Abstract: This invention relates to a device that provides controlled release of a fragrant or deodorizing substance: the fragrant or deodorizing substance being solubilized with an appropriate carrier solvent within a polymeric matrix. The layers function as protective barriers, semi-permeable membranes, fragrance reservoirs, and adhesives. The device is capable of delivering a fragrance at a controlled rate for a prolonged period of time through the gradual diffusion and release of fragrant material carried by a solvent from a reservoir system to the semi-permeable UV curable, oligomer composition acting a fragrance release regulator. Additionally, the UV curable, oligomeric composition that forms the reservoir and regulating layer can be engineered to be adhesive through cure inhibition. The method of cure inhibition can also be utilized to create internal areas of high and low cross link density to further control the release rate of a fragrance.

  • Publication number: 20090326093

  • Patent number: RE40941
Abstract: The present invention includes processes and resulting structures for producing a modified polymer having interconnecting channels. The interconnecting channels act as controlled transmission passages through the polymer. A hydrophilic agent is blended into the polymer so that it is distributed within the polymer. In one embodiment, a releasing material is blended into the polymer so that the releasing material is distributed within the product. The product is solidified so that the hydrophilic agent forms passages in the product through which a desired composition is communicable to the releasing material that is entrained within the product. The solidified product may be used to form a desired shaped article such as plug type inserts and liners for closed containers, or it may be formed into a film, sheet, bead or pellet.
