Abstract: A new dielectric material for a communication cable has a dielectric base with strength members embedded therein. By a new process, vacuum voids are formed in the dielectric base and at least partially contain or abut the strength members. The material is particularly well suited for a first dielectric tape, where the cable includes a first insulated conductor, the first dielectric tape and a second insulated conductor, with the first insulated conductor being twisted with the second insulated conductor with the first dielectric tape residing between the first insulated conductor and the second insulated conductor. The material is also suitable for a separator of the cable serving to separate twisted pairs from each other within the cable, as well as other components of the cable, such as an insulation layer of one or more of the insulated conductors of the twisted pairs.

The substrates are then joined together with the adhesive between them. When allowed to stand, the structure attains its final strength after a period of between a few seconds to a few days. The friction destroys the crystalline structure and causes the adhesive to become gluey, and re-crystallization gives it its final strength and eliminates the gluey quality. The adhesive is based preferably on polyester or polyurethane and used preferably in the form of a gum stick without impermeable packaging. • Patent number: 5667639
Abstract: This invention involves a method of optically whitening clay minerals to transform their natural yellow tint to increased whiteness. • Patent number: 5591789
Abstract: A paste composition having a high thermal conductivity and a relatively low viscosity is used to provide a thermal conductive connection between an electronic component and a cooling device to increase the heat transfer rate between the component and the device cooling the electronic component. The paste composition comprises a non-aqueous dielectric carrier, thermally conductive filler particles and a specially defined dispersant comprising the self-condensation reaction product of a hydroxy fatty acid, the reaction product having an acid number of about 30-100. A 12-hydroxy stearic acid self condensed reaction product is the preferred dispersant.

  • Patent number: 5545679
Abstract: An improved PTC current limiting composition has been provided which comprises a chemically cross-linked thermosetting polyester resin and conductive particles dispersed in the resin. The thermosetting polyester resin is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycol fumarate, polypropylene glycol adipate fumarate, neopentyl glycol isophthalate fumarate, and neopentyl glycol phthalate fumarate. The conductive additive particles are selected from the group consisting of graphite and/or carbon black. The composition exhibits PTC behavior when cross-linked by a vinyl monomer selected from the group consisting of styrene, vinyl toluene and tertiary butyl styrene. Curing proceeds by free-radical addition across double bonds of the thermosetting polyester resin and is initiated by organic peroxides. Initial gelation which causes cross-linking but not final curing takes about 0.5 to 4 hours at a temperature of about 25.degree. C. to 125.degree. C. The final cure takes about 0.

  • Patent number: 5475040
Abstract: Filled, thermoplastic-modified thermosetting polyester resin formulations are provided as encapsulants for microelectronics devices. The polyester encapsulant formulations include either a low profile thermoplastic resin additive or a combination of polyethylene and a low shrink thermoplastic additive. In preferred embodiments the polyester encapsulant formulations are of low viscosity and can be utilized in various pressure molding protocols. The encapsulant matrix is characterized by a low coefficient of thermal expansion, very low shrinkage, low modulus, and good thermal conductivity. Microelectronics devices encapsulated with the polyester resin formulation exhibit good resistance to moisture related and stress-induced failure.
