  • Patent number: 6218451
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a photoreactive and UV absorbing piperidine compound of the formula A below and of a mixture consisting of this piperidine compound and at least one selected UV absorber as light stabilizers in coating materials, preferably in automotive coating materials. The invention also provides a method of stabilizing coating materials against the degradation of the polymer material present in the coating material, as induced by the action of atmospheric oxygen, heat and/or UV light, and the coating materials themselves that are stabilized in this way.

Abstract: 1,2-Bis-adducts of stable hindered nitroxide compounds with substituted ethylenes are prepared by reacting two equivalents of nitroxyl compound with an ethylenically unsaturated compound such as styrene or an acrylate ester. These adducts are very effective inhibitors to prevent the premature polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers when such monomers are distilled, processed or stored.

  • Patent number: 6214995
Abstract: This invention relates to new and novel compositions and processes, whereby hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) having either one or more amido or imido groups and/or a phenolic or anilino group are reacted with an aldehyde to give hydroxy, alkylated groups. These hydroxyalkylated groups can be further reacted with lower alkyl alcohol's to give the more stable alkoxylated derivatives. The above compositions can then be used as reactive HALS for the following polymeric systems, e.g., aminoplasts epoxies, polyesters, polyamides, and urethanes and others to confer photo stabilization.
