Abstract: Filled thermoplastic compositions having enhanced elongation and useful, e.g., as sound-deadening sheeting for automotive carpet, are obtained by blending about 0-50% by weight of an ethylene interpolymer, such as ethylene/vinyl ester, ethylene/unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acids or esters of said unsaturated acids, etc.; 0-20% by weight of a plasticizer selected from the group consisting of processing oils, epoxidized oils, polyesters, polyethers, polyether esters and combinations thereof; about 40-90% by weight of filler; from about 0.05 to about 5.0% by weight of at least one surface active agent such as sulfonates, sulfates, phosphates, etc.; and optionally, modifying resins, such as tackifiers and certain ethylene and propylene homo- and copolymers.
Abstract: The invention is an improved hardener for use with phenolresorcinol-formaldehyde wood bonding adhesives. The hardener is conveniently made and shipped as a stable dry powdered material. It is then slurried in water at the point of use for convenience with continuously mixed and dispensed liquid-liquid, two part adhesive systems. The hardener comprises paraformaldehyde or alphapolyoxymethylene, fillers, viscosity and/or rheology control agents, and a solid acidic material. The latter ingredient is a critical component used to adjust the pH of an aqueous slurry to the range of 4.0 to 5.5. Oxalic acid is preferred. In this pH range, the formaldehyde polymers are stable and the slurried hardener does not give off significant formaldehyde odor for periods up to several days. Bonding performance is improved because the characteristics of the hardener and resulting adhesive have very little variation over time.
Abstract: Filled thermoplastic compositions useful, e.g., as sound-deadening sheeting for automotive carpet are obtained by blending about 5-55% by weight of an ethylene interpolymer, such as ethylene/vinyl ester, ethylene/unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acids or esters of said unsaturated acids, etc.; about 1-15% by weight of a plasticizer selected from the group consisting of polyesters, polyethers, polyether esters and combinations thereof with processing oil; about 40-90% by weight of filler; and optionally modifying resins, such as unvulcanized elastomeric polymers and certain other ethylene and propylene homo- and copolymers.
Abstract: The present invention relates to new azulmic acids stabilized by condensation with carbonyl compounds, several processes for their preparation and their use for various purposes.
Abstract: A clutch facing material including strings of asbestos to which are applied a mixture of cashew dust resin and graphite which is in turn mixed with cashew dust. The graphite is inseparably contained in the mixture of cashew dust resin and graphite and, in combination with the cashew dust, provides a clutch facing material showing a high frictional coefficient even at high temperatures.

Abstract: The invention concerns the production of particle board with a very substantially lowered formaldehyde emission as well as suitable binding agents. According to the invention the binding agent used in the production of the board is a combination of a polyisocyanate with a aminoplast resin containing 0.25 to 0.625 moles of formaldehyde per mole equivalent of aminogroups. The particle boards thus obtained possess satisfactory mechanical properties and a strongly reduced formaldehyde emission.

Abstract: Modified tall oil pitch is blended with a metallurgical addition agent and briquetted, extruded, molded, pelletized, or tabletized into a unitary composition. The tall oil pitch is modified chemically to increase the molecular weight and improve the binding properties.
Abstract: A friction material having an excellent heat-resistance, comprises 5 to 70% by weight of pulp-like particles consisting essentially of a heat-resistant aromatic polymeric material; 1 to 70% by weight of a fibrous material comprising at least one member selected from inorganic fibrous materials and heat-resistant organic fibrous materials; 1 to 35% by weight of a friction-regulating agent and; 5 to 40% by weight of a thermosetting polymeric resin.
