Abstract: Improved thermal stability and melt stability is demonstrated by stabilized compositions comprising a linear alternating polymer of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon having incorporated therein a stabilizing quantity of a phenolic compound of defined structure.

Abstract: Polyvinyl chloride resin stabilizer compositions are provided, comprising a 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidinyl compound and an ammonium or metal perchlorate; and also stabilized polyvinyl chloride resin compositions containing such stabilizers, and optionally including a plasticizer, and particularly as molded articles with polyurethane foam backing.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the solvent-induced crystallization of amorphous poly(etheretherketone)-type polymer to produce an article, which process comprises:A. contacting a preformed article of a polymer comprising amorphous poly(etheretherketone)-type polymer with at least one organic compound in its liquid state which consists essentially of atoms of carbon and hydrogen, optionally with oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, halogen or mixtures thereof having a molecular weight of between about 160 and 320 daltons at a temperature of between about 85.degree. C. and 145.degree. C. for a time effective to crystallize the poly(etheretherketone)-type polymer,B. removing the organic compound, andC. recovering the article comprising crystallized poly(etheretherketone)-type polymer. Poly(etheretherketone), poly(phenylenesulfide) or mixtures thereof are preferred polymer systems.
Abstract: Polyphenylene sulfide resin compositions are provided having improved light stability and comprising an alkylidene bis(benzotriazolyl phenol) having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl having from one to about eleven carbon atoms;R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; and arylalkyl having from seven to about eighteen carbon atoms; andX is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; halogen; alkyl having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; aryl alkyl having from seven to about eighteen carbon atoms; alkoxy having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; phenoxy; arylalkoxy having from seven to about eighteen carbon atoms; and phenyl.

Abstract: Bis-(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidyl)diimides are provided, having the formula: ##STR1## in which R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; oxyl; alkyl and alkenyl having from one to about eighteen carbon atoms; epoxy and hydroxyalkyl having from two to about eight carbon atoms; acyl having from two to about eight carbon atoms; and phenalkyl having from seven to about twelve carbon atoms; and Z is a tetravalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon group having from two to about eighteen carbon atoms; and stabilizer and synthetic polymer compositions containing such diimides having improved resistance to deterioration when exposed to light.
Abstract: The melt viscosity of thermoplastic polyphenylene ether resins and compositions thereof with compatible thermoplastic resins is decreased when the melt has a small content of a diaryl sulfide wherein each aryl group adjacent to the sulfide linkage contains at least one --OH substituent (or ester thereof with a monobasic acid containing at least six carbon atoms).
Abstract: Novel phenols substituted by at least one 5-norbornen-2-ylmethoxymethyl group and optionally, by methyl or t-butyl groups are used as nondiscoloring antiozonants and antioxidants in chloroprene polymers.

Abstract: An aromatic polyimide composition usable for producing shaped articles, for example, films, or as varnish, lacquer, or bonding agent, comprises a high molecular weight aromatic polyimide resin which is a polycondensation-imidization product of an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid component comprising 50 molar % or more of 3,4,3',4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid, anhydride, salt, or ester with an aromatic diamine component including 50 molar % or more of 4,4'-diaminodiphenylether, and which is dissolved in a mixed solvent consisting essentially of 10% by weight or more of a first solvent component selected from naphthol and resorcin and the balance of a second solvent component selected from phenol and cresols.
Abstract: Bis-(norbornyl or substituted norbornyl) derivatives of a phenol or phenylamine of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein each A is O or NH; M is a bivalent radical such as the residue of an aldehyde, ammonia, water or H.sub.2 S; each R is a hydrocarbyl or an inertly substituted hydrocarbyl group; each R.sub.1 is independently a hydrocarbyl or an inertly substituted hydrocarbyl group and each n is independently an integer from 0 to 3 are useful as antioxidants for a variety of materials including latex compositions for preparing latex foam backed carpets.
Abstract: Disclosed are polyester compositions having special utility in film or sheet form having improved gas and water barrier properties, and comprising homo- or copolyesters derived from terephthalic acid or mixtures of terephthalic acid with acids such as isophthalic, 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic, and the like, and a glycol component such as ethylene glycol or 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, blended with from about 1 to about 30 weight % of certain bisphenols such as bisphenol-A, and naphthalene diols. Films or sheets of these compositions are characterized by having greatly reduced oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor permeabilities.
Abstract: A method and apparatus of taking a solid, high molecular weight EPM or EPDM polymer into solution in oil as a shear stable viscosity index improver comprising passing the polymer through an extruder at elevated temperature for degradation of the polymer and circulating hot oil across the die face of the extruder while reducing the degraded polymer to particle size upon issuance from the extruder and into the hot oil.
Abstract: A non-volatile, anti-gel compound having a chain of at least about 5 repeat units of an alkylene oxide and which is soluble in olefin polymers, and an inorganic anti-block agent having a substantially neutral pH are added to a film grade transition metal catalyzed resin containing halide residues such as Ziegler-Natta catalyzed olefin polymer compositions to prevent: (1) gel streaking/pinstriping during film extrusion processes; (2) blocking of the extruded film; and (3) discoloration of the extruded film upon aging. The anti-gel compound has a molecular weight between about 200 and about 4,000,000 Daltons.
Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are provided that are especially suitable for forming contact bonds that are resealable to polyethylene surfaces at room temperature. Such adhesive compositions include a blend of a linear or a radial block copolymer, an end-block modifying resin compatible with the end or thermoplastic block of the copolymer and incompatible with the mid of elastomeric block, a plasticizing process oil compatible with the mid or elastomeric block, and, only if desired, not more than about 14 weight percent of a mid block or elastomeric block associating or modifying resin compatible with the mid or elastomeric block and incompatible with the end or thermoplastic block. A particularly advantageous utilization of these compositions is as a releasable and resealable sealing strip for thin-walled storage or sandwich bag products made of a polyolefin film.
Abstract: A polymeric composition comprised of a mixture of an acetylene-terminated polymer and an hydroxy-substituted, polynuclear, aromatic derivative as a cure retarding additive.
