Abstract: The present invention is directed to an ethylene-vinyl acetate dispersion and a process for making the dispersion by polymerizing a monomer mixture having vinyl acetate and ethylene in a batch process, in the presence of a stabilizing system of polyvinyl alcohol and without added surfactants, to form an ethylene-vinyl acetate polymer dispersion. The copolymer dispersion has a solids level of greater than 65 percent by weight, and a viscosity of less than 5000 mPa.s when measured at 65 percent solids at 25° C. The dispersion can be dried to form a redispersible powder. Both the dispersion and powder are useful in adhesive and coating formulations.

  • Patent number: 6525166
Abstract: The invention concerns a polyamide comprising macromolecular chains having a star-shaped configuration, a method for making said polyamide and compositions comprising same. More particularly, the invention concerns a method for making a polyamide comprising linear macromolecular chains and star-shaped macromolecular chains with control of the star-shaped chain concentration in the polymer. Said control is obtained by using besides the polyfunctional polymers and amino acids or lactams a polyfunctional comonomer comprising either acid functions or amine functions. The resulting polyamide has optimal mechanical and rheological properties for improving the speed and quality of mould filling and producing mouldable compositions comprising high filler factors.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing saturated polyester used in various molded products, such as films, synthetic fibers, vessels and housings. In particular, the method improves mechanical properties, including tensile strength or impact resistance, of saturated polyester. In DMT method or TPA method, the saturated polyester is synthesized through transesterification or esterification and polycondensation, in which metal compounds, such as metal acetate compounds, metal hydroxides, and metal oxides, are added in the larger amounts upon synthesis, and thus crystalline internal grains are formed, thereby improving the mechanical properties. As such, the metal compound can be used alone or in combination with a phosphorous-based compound.

  • Publication number: 20020058781
Abstract: Applicant has discovered processes for preparing polyglycerols and polyglycerol esters in high yield and with minimal formation of cyclic polyglycerols and cyclic polyglycerol esters. Furthermore, the processes of this invention produce a high proportion of linear polyglycerols and polyglycerol esters. The linear polyglycerols have very desirable physical characteristics, including a clear appearance at melt, a desirable Gardner color, a mild odor, and a bland taste. The polyglycerols and polyglycerol esters prepared by the method of the present invention are well suited for use as cosmetic and food additives. Since few, if any, cyclic polyglycerols and polyglycerol esters are formed by the processes of this invention, costly and time consuming distillation steps to remove such by-products are not needed.
