Patent number: 6011093Abstract: This invention is based upon the unexpected discovery that uintahite can be incorporated into tire component rubber to improve the physical properties thereof. For example, by incorporating uintahite into tire tread rubber compositions, tires with improved tear and puncture resistance can be manufactured. Since uintahite is a relatively low cost material, its incorporation into tires also reduces cost. For instance, uintahite can be incorporated into a wide variety of tire rubber compounds used in the tread (including the base and the cap), sidewall, apex, chafer, bead coat, toeguard, innerliner, ply coat, gum strips, coverstrip, overlay and wedge stocks.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1998Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Neil Arthur Maly, Jay Gordon Bryson

Patent number: 5693693Abstract: Wax based invisible inks have been discovered that emit light at various wavelengths in the visible region when they are excited by UV light. This allows lower layer clear text information to be written on an object with a regular, visible ink and an upper layer bar code to be written over the lower layer text information with an ink that is invisible to the naked eye. This allows the lower layer text information and upper layer bar code to contain more information than conventional bar codes. These inks allow printing and decoding invisible bar codes over printed information with visible inks. The detection by fluorescence of these invisible inks provides a high signal to noise ratio and no interference with the visible printed information.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1994Date of Patent: December 2, 1997Assignee: Pitney Bowes, Inc.Inventors: Judith D. Patent number: 5126383Abstract: Polymer-modified bituminous compositions containing 0.5 to 20% by weight of polymer components, where 20 to 100% by weight of the polymer added is polyalkyl(meth)acrylate, which in synthesized from 50 to 99.8% by weight from C.sub.6 to C.sub.28 alkyl(meth)acrylates, 0.2 to 20% by weight from polymerizable carboxylic acids and/or sulfonic acids and 0 to 49.8% by weight from one or more other polymerizable, in particular nitrogen-containing compounds. Through the addition of reactive metal compounds, bituminous mixtures with improved elastic recovery, for example ranging from >50% to about 90%, with low temperature flexibility and high thermal stability are obtained.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1991Date of Patent: June 30, 1992Assignee: Rohm GmbH Chemische FabrikInventors: Michael Muller, Otto Hitzler

Patent number: 5114648Abstract: A process for producing thermoplastic resin products where granulated or particulate vulcanized rubber is sprayed by a heated heavy paraffin distillate composition to form a first intermediate mixture composition. The first intermediate mixture composition is passed through a heating chamber on a conveyor and combined with particulate thermoplastic scrap material in an approximating weight percentage of 30% thermoplastic material to 70% first intermediate mixture material. The combination forms a second intermediate mixture composition which is masticated in a masticator and extruded through a single screw feed mechanism for pelletizing and producing thermoplastic resin products which are useful for molding.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1991Date of Patent: May 19, 1992Inventor: John Kuc, Sr.

Patent number: 5109052Abstract: A novel thermoplastic resin composition is disclosed, which comprises a polyphenylene ether, a polyamide and a specific block copolymer as main components and has a specific dispersion morphology such that the polyamide forms a continuous phase in which the polyphenylene ether is dispersed and the block copolymer is micro-dispersed in the dispersed phase of the polyphenylene ether. The composition of the present invention has an excellent balance of thermal stability, heat distortion resistance, impact resistance, oil resistance, stiffness, etc., and, hence, is useful as an engineering material in the fields of automobiles, electric and electronic industries.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1991Date of Patent: April 28, 1992Assignee: Asahi Kasei Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Koji Kasai, Masami Tsunetani

Patent number: 5070109Abstract: A method is disclosed for the recovery of hydrocarbon products from elastomeric products such as discarded vehicle tires and other rubber products. The elastomeric products are immersed in a liquid heat transfer medium and heated to a temperature in the range of from about 575.degree. F. to about 600.degree. F. for a period of from about 0.5 to about 2.0 hours. The process produces a methane-containing gas product, a low boiling fuel oil fraction, a light fraction elastomeric hydrocarbon solid, a heavy fraction elastomeric hydrocarbon solid, and steel cord when steel belted radial tires are processed.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1989Date of Patent: December 3, 1991Assignee: Rubber Waste, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J.
