The coating is initially applied to the surface of the substrate to form a film thickness of 1-3 mils. The whiteboard is characterized as when tested by erasure of the dry erase markers, the marks are virtually invisible after 2500 cycles. The composition can be packaged as a kit with applicators.

    Abstract: An extrudable epoxy resin and curing agent that polymerize when mixed are separated by an extrudable barrier layer disposed between and in contacting relationship with the epoxy resin and curing agent. The material of the barrier layer is insoluble in the epoxy resin and curing agent while being dispersible in a mixture of them. The barrier layer material is selected from hydrogenated rosin ester, terpene phenolic resin, alpha-pinene resin and polybutene. The epoxy resin, curing agent and barrier layer have sufficiently similar rheologies at the temperature at which they are to be extruded from their container to ensure against intermixing until after they emerge from the container outlet.

    Abstract: A cement for bonding carbon blocks, particularly the cathode blocks of electrolytic cells, e.g. Hall-Heroult cells used for the production of aluminum. The cement comprises a carbonaceous aggregate of particle size smaller than 48 Tyler mesh, a curable water-soluble liquid polymeric resin (preferably a phenol-formaldehyde resin), water and normally a curing agent for the resin. The water is used in such an amount that the proportion of the resin can be reduced without adversely affecting the viscosity of the cement at ambient temperature. The cement carbonizes when the carbon blocks are subjected to high temperatures and has a linear shrinkage of less than 5%, which reduces the tendency of the carbonized cement to crack.

In an especially preferred embodiment, the aqueous addition polymer dispersion is combined with at least one of the other constituets in the form of a multi-polymer particle dispersion.

Suitable substrates include styrene board and fiberglass board.

This second component comprises a polymerization initiator having hydroxyl and/or carboxylate groups therein, such as carbohydrate, i.e., saccharides, etc., hydrolyzed polyvinylacetate, etc. A particularly preferred initiator is alginate.
