Polycarboxylic Acid Or Derivative Contains Three Or More Carboxylic Acid Groups Or Derivatives Thereof; Or Wherein A Polyol Contains At Least Three Hydroxyl Groups Patents (Class 525/172)
  • Patent number: 4255471
Abstract: Disclosed is a solution including an aromatic bis (ether dicarboxylic acid) component, an organic diamine component and a solvent system including a water-soluble organic solvent component, which may be a dipolar aprotic solvent or a monoalkyl ether of ethylene glycol or of diethylene glycol, and optionally water. The solution may be coated on a substrate and polymerized to form high quality polyetherimide coatings.

  • Patent number: 4247427
Abstract: Thermoplastic segmented copolyester elastomer consisting essentially of a multiplicity of recurring short chain ester units and long chain ester units joined through ester linkages, said short chain ester units amounting to 15 to 75 percent by weight of said copolyester and being derived from dicarboxylic acid such as an aromatic acid, e.g., terephthalic acid or a mixture of terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid, and an organic diol such as butanediol, and said long chain ester units amounting to 25 to 85 percent by weight of said copolyester and being derived from dicarboxylic acid such as an aromatic acid, e.g., terephthalic acid, or a mixture of terephthalic and isophthalic acids, and a long chain glycol such as polytetramethylene ether glycol, said copolyester having a melt index of less than 150 and a melting point of at least 90.degree. C., modified with 0.

  • Patent number: 4208488
Abstract: A thermosetting coating or adhesive composition based on (A) at least one component selected from the group consisting of oligomeric and polymeric compounds containing at least one of the functional groups hydroxyl and epoxy groups, and (B) a polycarboxylic acid mixture comprising trimellitic acid and a major amount of at least one compound of one of the formulae ##STR1## wherein R, R' and R'", being the same or different, each represents a di- to hexavalent hydrocarbon radical having a total of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, said radical containing from zero to 2 olefinic double bonds, said radical without double bonds being interrupted by up to 3 ether bridges:x and y which may be the same or different, each represents an integer of from 2 to 6;t an integer of from 1 to 5; andz and u, which may be the same or different, each represents zero or an integer of from 1 to 5 and a process for coating a substrate with said composition.

  • Patent number: 4179420
Abstract: Water dispersible oil-modified polyesters and oil-free polyesters are formed by the reaction of aromatic dicarboxylic acids, aliphatic dicarboxylic acids and polyols to form the polyester. In oil-free polyesters, oils of the respective fatty acids are excluded but the other reactants are similar to those employed in the preparation of oil-modified polyesters.

  • Patent number: 4165432
Abstract: Compounds containing peroxy linkages connecting similar polyol ester constituents are described. These peroxy di-ester polyols are prepared by the direct esterification of peroxy diacids with polyols, in the presence of a strong mineral acid catalyst. The peroxy di-ester polyol products function as free radical initiators and grafting bases in the graft copolymerization of unsaturated monomers with polyols. These graft copolymers are useful in the formulation of polyurethanes.
