  • Patent number: 9062381
Abstract: A method for treating a surface of a metal implant includes a polishing step, a grafting step and a surface modifying step. The polishing step includes polishing a surface of a metal implant to remove an uneven, natural oxide layer on the surface of the metal implant and to generate an even oxide layer on the surface of the metal implant. The grafting step includes grafting an anti-adhesion macromolecule on an outer face of the even oxide layer. A covalent bond between the anti-adhesion macromolecule and oxygen atoms on the outer face of the even oxide layer is formed. Thus, a macromolecular anti-adhesion layer on the outer face of the even oxide layer can be created. The surface modifying step includes changing a property of the surface of the metal implant with the macromolecular anti-adhesion layer by high temperature and high pressure, providing the metal implant with high hydrophilicity.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the preparation of hydrophilic nanoparticles and in particular hydrophilic nanoparticles that are biocompatible. Free radical monovinyl-divinyl monomer copolymerization/cross-linking reactions of water-soluble, monovinyl N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) with a bi-unsaturated divinyl, comonomer (poly{ethylene glycol}dimethacrylate) (PEGDMA), has been found to yield hydrophilic nanoparticles (NPs). These nanoparticles are built from three-dimensional nanopolymer networks. In the polymers' synthesis the composition of the monomers, and the total monomer concentration were varied. The characteristics of copolymers were determined by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and elemental analysis. Particle size and morphology of nanoparticles were confirmed by dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) methods.

  • Patent number: 7429632
Abstract: An improved method of manufacturing surface-crosslinked superabsorbent polymer particles is disclosed. The superabsorbent polymer particles are surface crosslinked using about 20 to about 35 wt % of 1,3-propanediol as a cosolvent in a surface-crosslinking step. The use of 1,3-propanediol as a cosolvent reduces the amount of surface-crosslinking agent required to adequately surface crosslink the superabsorbent polymer, and reduces or eliminates the fouling of process equipment attributed to previous cosolvents used in a surface crosslinking step.

  • Patent number: 7399792
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a novel solid reagent capable of solving the problems of conventional solid reagents based on resin beads. The present invention relates to a solid reagent comprising an organic polymer base in which a polymer side chain is introduced onto the backbone of the organic polymer base via graft polymerization and a reactive functional group is introduced onto the polymer side chain. The organic polymer base is preferably in the form of a fiber, a woven or nonwoven fabric consisting of an assembly of fibers, a porous membrane or a hollow fiber membrane. The graft polymerization is preferably a radiation-induced graft polymerization. Solid reagents according to the present invention can be used in various organic synthetic reactions.
