  • Patent number: 8846816
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the preparation of a crosslinkable rubber mixture for vehicle tires, lines, drive belts and other industrial rubber articles, which can be carried out at least semicontinuously. The present invention is based on the discovery that the experiments known from the prior art to carry out the batchwise process usually used at least partly continuously have failed in particular because of the problem that the crosslinking agents have to be mixed rapidly and homogeneously with the base mixture, also referred to as rubber base mixture, without the mixture consisting of the base mixture and the crosslinking agents heating up too strongly. According to the invention, attention was therefore focussed on reliably mixing the base mixture homogeneously with the crosslinking agents and minimizing the mixing time. A first measure for achieving the desired aim consists in first mixing the crosslinking agents with one another before they are mixed with the base mixture.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to particles, including microgel particles, for purifying proteins and other species. In one aspect, the particles comprise a metal-chelating moiety, which may be distributed substantially evenly throughout the particle in certain embodiments. In some cases, the particles may be porous, and in some embodiments, the particles may be made sufficiently small, for example, in order to form a microgel containing the particles. Such particles may be useful, for example, in binding metal ions (for example, nickel ions) using the metal-chelating moieties. In some embodiments, such particles may also be used to bind certain analytes (for example, proteins) containing tags which attract metal ions, for example, histidine tags. Accordingly, in certain embodiments, the particles may be used for binding or trapping proteins.

The hydrogenated polymer has an &agr;/&bgr; peak ratio >1, measured by 1H-NMR. The a peak is measured between 2.05 and 2.2 ppm. The &bgr; peak is measured between 1.8 and 2.05 ppm. The polymer composition has a gel content of less than 15 wt. % and a molecular weight distribution (of its soluble part) of less than 10. The polymer compositions may be used to form articles, such as automotive parts, which are less sensitive to oxidation degradation.

Abstract: Superabsorbent polymers having a slow rate of absorption, and a process for their preparation. The superabsorbent polymer has a slow rate of absorption, is crosslinked with a covalent crosslinking agent and the metal of a polyvalent metal coordination compound, has the metal of the coordination compound distributed essentially homogeneously throughout the polymer, and has an Absorption Rate Index of at least about 5 minutes. Prepare water-swellable, water-insoluble polymer particles having a slow rate of water absorption by polymerizing a monomer in the presence of a covalent crosslinking agent and a polyvalent metal coordination compound under conditions such that there is formed a polymer having reversible cationic crosslinks and such that the metal is distributed essentially homogeneously throughout the polymer particles.
