Abstract: The invention relates to modified polymeric aromatic isocyanates having allophanate linkages prepared by (a) reacting a polymeric aromatic isocyanate with a monofunctional aliphatic alcohol to form an intermediate modified polymeric isocyanate; and (b) reacting the intermediate modified polymeric isocyanate at an elevated temperature in the presence of a divalent metal catalyst. The invention also relates to foundry binder systems which use these modified polyisocyanates. These modified polyisocyanates, along with a phenolic resole resin, are added to a foundry aggregate to form a foundry mix which is shaped and cured with a gaseous amine curing catalyst by the cold-box process.

  • Patent number: 5894071
Abstract: Two-component adhesive-, sealing- or coating compositions are being described which are separately packed, and comprise the component A and the component D, whereby the component A is curing as soon as it gets in touch with water or the component D which contains the curing agent for the component A.The component D can be, or a component B containing an ingredient which is curing at the contact of water, or, possibly, at the contact with the component A, orthe component D can also be a mixture of solid matter and a volatile ingredient which is causing the cross-linking of the component A.The advantage of the novel two-component systems is that the component D is working as a curing agent for the component A, however, a surplus thereof is, or self-curing, or it does not leave a nuissance residue in the cured composition.

  • Patent number: 5852135
Abstract: A resin composition comprises (1) a thermoplastic resin and (2) a modified polyacetal wherein a residue of a polymerizable compound having a functional group such as an epoxy group, a carboxyl group, an acid anhydride group or others is introduced to a base polyacetal in a proportion of 0.1 to 30% by weight relative to the base polyacetal. The thermoplastic resin includes various polymers such as an olefinic polymer, a styrenic polymer, a polyester, a polyamide and so on. The thermoplastic resins can be used singly or in combination, and the latter combination includes a combination of two or more species of resins being immiscible with each other, a combination of a polyacetal and a resin except for a polyacetal (e.g. an elastomer, etc.) and other combinations. The relative ratio of (1) the thermoplastic resin to (2) the modified polyacetal is such that the former/the latter equals about 1/99 through 99/1 (by weight).

Abstract: Resins having a group reactive with an isocyanate group on a side chain are modified with isocyanatosiloxanes. In one form, the isocyanatosiloxane is a single end isocyanatosiloxane obtained by effecting addition reaction between a single end hydrogenosiloxane and an isocyanate group-containing organic silicon compound having one isocyanate group and at least one aliphatic unsaturated hydrocarbon group. A single end isocyanatosiloxane obtained by introducing an isocyanate group into a single end primary aminosiloxane is also useful. In another form, the isocyanatosiloxane is a polyfunctional isocyanatosiloxane which is obtained by effecting addition reaction between a hydrogenosiloxane having at least two SiH groups and an isocyanate group-containing organic silicon compound having one isocyanate group and one aliphatic unsaturated hydrocarbon group.

  • Patent number: 5693709
Abstract: Polyoxymethylene with improved acid stability, process for production and use thereof. By adding 0.01 to 5 parts of an alkali metal salt of a polybasic acid, for example oxalic acid, citric acid and/or 0.01 to 5 parts of a polyalkylene glycol, for example polyethylene glycol and/or 0.1 to 100 parts of a thermoplastic polyurethane, each related to 100 parts of a polyoxymethylene, this polymer is stabilized against attack by acids, wherein in particular the combination of an alkali metal salt, in particular an oxalate, with small proportions of a thermoplastic polyurethane is advantageous. The proportion of thermoplastic polyurethane may be reduced when the thermoplastic polyurethane has a Shore A hardness of 70 to 96. The weight loss of a stabilized POM under the action of acid may be less than 3% of that of an unstabilized POM. The products are useful when exposed to acidic agents such as irrigation systems, dishwashers, sanitary installations.
