Abstract: Two-component adhesive-, sealing- or coating compositions are being described which are separately packed, and comprise the component A and the component D, whereby the component A is curing as soon as it gets in touch with water or the component D which contains the curing agent for the component A.The component D can be, or a component B containing an ingredient which is curing at the contact of water, or, possibly, at the contact with the component A, orthe component D can also be a mixture of solid matter and a volatile ingredient which is causing the cross-linking of the component A.The advantage of the novel two-component systems is that the component D is working as a curing agent for the component A, however, a surplus thereof is, or self-curing, or it does not leave a nuissance residue in the cured composition.

  • Patent number: 5844059
Abstract: To prepare a thermally very stable polyacetal copolymer containing a very small amount of unstable parts in a high yield according to a simple process wherein an isopolyacid or an acid salt thereof is used as the polymerization catalyst in the copolymerization of trioxane as the principal monomer with a comonomer copolymerizable therewith, and wherein deactivation of the catalyst can be effected simply without fail through contact with a basic gas after polymerization without the necessity for any washing step. In the preparation of a polyacetal copolymer by the copolymerization of trioxane as the principal monomer with a cyclic ether or cyclic formal having at least one carbon--carbon bond as a comonomer, the copolymerization is effected using an isopolyacid or an acid salt thereof as the polymerization catalyst, followed by contact with a basic gas as a deactivator to deactivate the catalyst, and subsequent heat-melting treatment of the resulting crude polymer intact without washing thereof.

As curing agents in epoxy resins compared with previously known isomer mixtures, the isomer mixtures containing more than 40% of the trans-isomer and less than 60% of the cis-isomer unexpectedly lead to an extended pot life with simultaneously reduced maximum curing temperature and therefore reduced shrinkage problems. • Patent number: 4233197
Abstract: Aqueous compositions are employed to form a protective coating on metal surfaces, in particular, ferrous or tin surfaces, and are especially useful for the coating of blackplate or tin-plated cans. The compositions contain, in the form of an aqueous emulsion, an epoxy resin, an alkylated melamine-formaldehyde resin, an acid catalyst, a block copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide and water. The composition is applied to a clean metal surface by any conventional technique and oven-cured to provide a protective, paint-receptive coating.

  • Patent number: 4224206
Abstract: An essentially linear polymer having a plurality of amide, imide and ester groups therein, which is the condensation product of (1) at least one polycarboxylic acid imide-forming reactant, (2) at least one ethylenically unsaturated polycarboxylic acid carboxypyrrolidone-forming reactant, (3) at least one polycarboxylic acid ester-forming reactant, (4) at least one glycoly, (5) at least one other polyfunctional hydroxyl compound, and (6) at least one polyfunctional amino compound having at least one primary amine group thereon. The equivalent molar ratio of the functional hydroxyl groups of the glycols and hydroxyl compounds to the functional ester-forming carboxyl groups of the acid reactants is from about 1.0 to 1 to about 3.0 to 1.

  • Patent number: 4172193
Abstract: Cathodic electrocoating binders based on polycondensation products which contain amino groups and which are, at least partially, in the form of their ammonium salts or quaternary ammonium salts. The polycondensation products containing amino groups are obtained by adduct formation of p-hydroxyacetophenone with polymers containing epoxide groups, followed by reaction of these adducts with formaldehyde and a secondary amine. The electrocoating binders of the invention may be used for coating metallic substrates and give coatings which are particularly corrosion-resistant and adhere particularly firmly.
