Abstract: A method of making zinc-modified phenol-aldehyde novolak resins for use as a color-developing agent in pressure-sensitive record sheet material involving the addition of certain dry particulate zinc compounds and an ammonium carboxylate to the melted resin. Specifically, a phenol-formaldehyde resin is reacted with zinc oxide or zinc carbonate and ammonium benzoate.
