Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there are provided novel heterobifunctional monomers and users for the same. Invention compounds have many of the properties required by the microelectronics industry, such as, for example, hydrophobicity, high Tg values, low dielectric constant, ionic purity, low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), and the like. These properties result in a thermoset that is particularly well suited to high performance applications where typical operating temperatures are often significantly higher than those at which prior art materials were suitable. Invention compounds are particularly ideal for use in the manufacture of electronic components, such as, for example, printed circuit boards, and the like.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of a compound or polymer having at least one functional group selected from hydroxyl, thiol, amino and carboxylic acid groups is characterized in that a compound or polymer (A) containing a group of formula (I), ##STR1## where Q represents O or S and X represents --O--, --S--, --NH-- or a direct bond, the group being linked to the remainder of the compound or polymer through a carbon atom, is reacted with a compound (B) containing at least two functional groups selected from hydroxyl, thiol, amino and carboxylic acid groups, one of which functional groups (II) reacts with the group of formula (I) and one of which functional groups (III) is substantially unreactive with the group of formula (I) under the conditions of reaction, so that the compound (B) becomes bonded to (A) through the reaction of groups (I) and (II) forming a compound or polymer containing unreacted functional groups (III).

  • Patent number: 5986044
Abstract: The narrow poly- or mono-dispersed oligomers of the present invention are polyureas, polycarbonates, polyesters or polyamides having a recurring unit of from 3 to 50. These oligomers are water-soluble, preferably have a rigid backbone, have recurring units coupled by carbonyl linking moieties which have anionic groups, display predominantly linear geometry such that regular spacing between anionic groups exists in an aqueous medium, and are pharmaceutically-acceptable. The narrow poly- or mono-dispersed oligomers are useful for the treatment and/or diagnosis of AIDS and/or ARC or HSV.

  • Patent number: 5919564
Abstract: Disclosed is a polyurethaneurea elastic fiber composed of a polyurethaneurea obtained by a reaction of a polymer diol, organic diisocyanate, bifunctional amine mainly consisting of 75% or more of ethylenediamine and a monoamine; and incorporated therein a specific alkylsulfonate or sulfate having a specific hydrocarbon groups containing carbon atoms ranging from 6 to 20. The polyurethaneurea elastic fiber can exhibit a high breaking strength and high elongation at break, and therefore, can produce a fine denier polyurethaneurea elastic fiber. The fiber can provide a converting processing of elastic fiber under a high draft and at a higher processing speed.

  • Patent number: 5898062
Abstract: Poly (organophosphazene) polymers bearing various ratios of a carboxylic acid containing sidegroup and an alkylamino, alkoxy, or alkoxy ether sidegroup are disclosed. These water-soluble macromolecules are cross-linked and allowed to absorb water to form hydrogels. Because of their anionic character and high water content, the polymeric hydrogels are useful for a wide variety of biomedical applications including controlled drug delivery (e.g. pH sensitive drug delivery), biocompatible coatings, and pH sensitive membranes.
