With Wiper Or Leveler Means Patents (Class 53/315)
  • Patent number: 8800252
Abstract: A method and capping apparatus is provided for securely seating a closure with curvilinear top surface onto a container in a manner that avoids damage from excessive force applied to the closure. The apparatus has a cap locking unit with a circulating compression belt that contacts a top surface of the closure/container as the combination is being transported from underneath by a conveyor. A dancer contacts an inner surface of the compression belt. Pressure is applied from the dancer through leading and trailing leg components that converge from a common pivot. Ends of the leading and trailing legs are spaced from one another less than the length of the closure. Force is applied to the closure by simultaneous pressure from both legs on different first and second areas of the closure top surface.

  • Patent number: 6829875
Abstract: A method and apparatus for venting a filled bottle closed by a stopper is disclosed. The venting is designed to equalize the pressure between the interior of the bottle and the atmosphere such that the stopper inserted into the filled bottle is not forced out of the bottle by excess pressure in the bottle. The venting may be accomplished by deforming the stopper in the bottle opening to form an air-outlet opening in the region sealed by the stopper and the bottle. The venting may be implemented by a squeezing device arranged on at least one side of the stopper, the squeezing device being active in a direction perpendicular to the central axis of the bottle opening.

  • Patent number: 5426912
Abstract: This relates to a guide for guiding a closure cap onto a container neck finish in a machine for automatically applying closure caps to containers. Most particularly this relates to a guide assembly for closure caps which include a metal shell and a plastic overcap including a tamper indicating band which depends below the metal shell and wherein the closure cap cannot be supported by way of flanges or rails of a track in the normal manner in that the supporting part of the closure cap is subject to deformation and not true and round as in the case of metal closure caps. A lower portion of the conventional track has been replaced by a magnetic cap guide unit which forms an extension of the conventional track and which maintains the position of a closure cap after it has been initially engaged by the neck finish of a container so as to maintain the relationship of the closure cap relative to the container which permits the closure cap being seated square on to the neck finish for final automatic application.

  • Patent number: 5398480
Abstract: A device for stabilizing container caps on the open ends of containers so that they may be securely threaded onto the containers by a capping machine. The device comprises a mounting means adapted for attachment to capping machines and a cap guide that comprises a base that is pivotally connected to the mounting means for rotation about one end of the base and has a biasing means interposed between the base and the mounting means that urges the cap guide into a downward position. The top of the cap engages the base rotating the cap guide to a generally horizontal position leveling the cap. Simultaneously the biasing means applies a downward force on the top of the cap to ensure that the threads on the cap will engage with those on the container when the cap is rotated.

  • Patent number: 4949526
Abstract: An automatic lid dispensing and applicator arrangement for an automated drinkmaker machine. The lidding arrangement automatically separates lids from a stack of lids and applies the separated lids onto cups. A large supply of lids is maintained in a rotatable lid supply carousel. A lid shuttle is positioned adjacent the bottom of a lid dispenser, and is supported for linear translating and reciprocating movement between retracted and extended positions. The lid shuttle supports a lid engaging member designed to engage a first bottommost lid of the stack of lids and to retain the first bottommost lid in a first intermediate position in the lid shuttle while the lid shuttle is moved in translation to its extended position. The lid shuttle is then moved in translation to its retracted position, during which the first lid is moved within the lid shuttle to a second loaded position therein beneath a lid applicator supported by the lid shuttle.

  • Patent number: 4571920
Abstract: A keg capping machine primarily for use with beer kegs having protruding neck portions upon which flexible plastic caps are to be fitted. The machine has a capping head attached to the lower end of an inclined cap chute which is attached on its upper end to a cap storing hopper. The capping head has horizontal flanges on its bottom edge which serve as stops and guideways for caps sliding down the chute. The neck of a keg which is carried along a conveyor moves between the guideways and engages the lower portion of a cap forcing it through the capping head. A cap driving rocker within the capping head is employed to force the cap down tightly onto the neck of the keg.

  • Patent number: 4279114
Abstract: This disclosure relates to apparatus for applying screw-on caps to containers. The caps are fed down a chute and are engaged by the mouths of containers. Each cap, after it is engaged with the mouth of a container, is pressure-urged down onto the container in a position parallel to the path of movement of the container and is rotated in a screw-off direction. It then moves to a position where it is engaged by another friction device and another hold-down device where it is rotated in a screw-on direction.

  • Patent number: 3983616
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for moving a plurality of two-piece canning jar-type lids in series to a feed mechanism in the form of a magazine which will single-line the caps and maintain them in assembled position. The single-lining mechanism is designed to feed lids into the path of movement of a plurality of containers, also moving in series on their sides with their axes horizontal. The caps or lids are carried at an angle to the path of movement of the finish of the jars such as that the finish of the jars or containers will each individually remove a cap from the supply of caps. The caps are then retained on the finish of the jar and are moved with the jar, in a linear path, with the caps being rotated by frictional engagement and thereby threaded onto the finish of the containers.
