    Abstract: A crimper and method for crimping roll wrap overhang are provided. The crimper comprises a rotatable support for mounting to a drive shaft, a folding member on the support for engaging and bending flexible material (such as paper roll wrap) to generate a fold upon rotation of the support about a support axis, and a crease roller on the support in direction of rotation behind the folding member for creasing the fold upon rotation of the support. The crimper and crimping method are particularly suitable for crimping roll wrap overhangs of over 6 inches. The present invention also provides a crimping assembly comprising the crimper described herein.

The gather-folding apparatus forms angle pleated portions on end surface wrapping material by means of both plate-shaped folding members which come into plane contact from outside of the end surface wrapping material and inter support arms which come into line-contact with the inner peripheral surface of the end surface wrapping material. This gather-folding apparatus forms, by means of both the surfaces of the plate-shaped folding members and the line of the inter support arm, two planes of folded planes sandwiching the line concerned.

The wrapper (24, 27) is threaded about the roll (10) to be wrapped so as to form at least two wrapper plies and the wrapper plies are bonded to each other at least partially with the help of a binder. The rolls to be wrapped are wrapped into at least two parallel and overlapped courses of wrapper using a wrapper web material whose surface is coated with a hot-melting and heat-sealable material that is melted prior to the wrapping of the wrapper about the roll in order to bind the superimposed plies of the wrapper to each other and to seal the joints of said overlapped courses of wrapper.

    Abstract: A crimper for forming a finished crimped end on a wrapper for coins or other articles has a cylindrical opening for receiving a projecting end of the wrapper into the body. A crimping structure located in the opening includes a first slide surface for sliding the end of the wrapper in a first linear direction to a second of slide surface for sliding the end of the wrapper in a second, transverse linear direction. By sliding the end of the wrapper in the two directions, the end of the wrapper is forced to roll and form a finished crimped end.

    Abstract: A packaging apparatus packages a cylindrical article having a hollow region therein by gathering an end of a wide packaging sheet wrapped around the cylindrical article, and pressing the gathered end into the hollow region in the cylindrical article. The gathered end of the packaging sheet is pressed into the hollow region in the cylindrical article by a presser which has an outside diameter smaller than the diameter of the hollow region and an inside diameter greater than the outside diameter of a core tube used to gather the end of the packaging sheet. The core tube is withdrawn from the hollow region before the gathered end of the packaging sheet is fully pressed into the hollow region by the presser. The packaging apparatus can reliably gather and squeeze a packaging sheet having long opposite ends.
