Patent number: 11034471Abstract: A film-wrapping apparatus for the automatic film-wrapping of articles is provided that includes a conveying device for conveying an article through a film-wrapping channel of the film-wrapping apparatus. The film-wrapping apparatus has a film-supply device arranged above the film-wrapping channel. The film-wrapping apparatus also includes at least two movably arranged grippers and a sealing device. The at least two grippers are predefinably movably arranged between a supply position and a sealing position. The grippers, in the supply position, grip two opposite corners of the film material supplied by the film-supply device and pull the film material from the supply position into the sealing position and hold the material. In the sealing position, the grippers are arranged in a sealing plane and substantially level with an upper side of the conveying device. The sealing device seals the two side edges of the article that are arranged in the sealing plane.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2019Date of Patent: June 15, 2021Assignee: SPRINGER MASCHINENFABRIK GMBHInventor: Clemens Frisch

Patent number: 7412810Abstract: A packaging device is provided which prevents trays accommodating packaged items from being broken due to the tension in a film acting from above. The sealing base and the sealer perform a box motion by the combination of the back and forth movement of the general frame, and the upward and downward movement of the sealing base and the sealer, and the film is welded onto the flange of the tray while in movement. In this case, by setting the upper limit of the sealing base to the lower surface of the flange of the tray, it is possible for the deck plate to receive the tension of the film acting on the tray through the packaged item.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2005Date of Patent: August 19, 2008Assignee: Ibaraki Seiki Machinery Company, Ltd.Inventor: Kazuo Konishi

Patent number: 7320206Abstract: For processing flat objects (10), in particular for packing printed products or small groups thereof, using a continuous packing material, the objects are conveyed in a conveying stream in which they are arranged in succession and essentially parallel to the conveying direction, and possibly between two layers of packing material, along a part of the periphery of a processing drum (1). The processing drum (1) has axially extending support elements (2) and tool elements (3) regularly alternating around its periphery. A radial position of the supporting and tool elements is adjustable, to accommodate varying formats of the objects to be processed. The processing drum also includes a pressing belt (4) extending from an entry point (A) to an exit point (B) on the drum periphery and holding and pressing the objects being conveyed on the drum periphery against the tool elements.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2003Date of Patent: January 22, 2008Assignee: Ferag AGInventor: Werner Honegger

Patent number: 7269932Abstract: A sealing and packaging device in which, simultaneously when a sealing base frame lifted upwards from a lower region towards a flange on the perimeter edge of a tray mounted on a desk plate makes contact with the flange, a touching base provided on a frame of the sealing base frame makes contact with the lower surface of the deck plate, and the tray is pushed upwards towards a cover film by means of the deck plate and sealing base frame, the cover film being welded to the flange of the tray. By means of the upward movement of the tray caused by the sealing base frame and deck plate, breaking of the tray is prevented by the deck plate on which the tray is mounted, even when the tensile pressure of the film or the reaction of urethane rubber members act respectively on the packaged item in the tray.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2005Date of Patent: September 18, 2007Assignee: Ibaraki Seiki Machinery Company, Ltd.Inventor: Kazuo Konishi

Patent number: 6971221Abstract: A packaging method and apparatus employ web material having cohesive on facing surfaces of two web portions between which an item is packaged. The cohesive adheres to itself by application of pressure alone, without heat, but tends not to adhere to other surfaces. The web portions are sealed together about the item by seal devices that apply pressure without heat to the web portions. The web portions and item can be passed through a resilient nip formed by two rolls, at least one of which has resiliently compliant roll portion(s) for pressing the web portions closely about the item.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2004Date of Patent: December 6, 2005Assignee: Sealed Air CorporationInventors: Laurence B. Patent number: 6962033Abstract: An automatic high speed packaging machine for wrapping packages in polymer film is disclosed wherein the film seal at the sides and ends of the packages is made at a high rate of speed as the packages travel through the machine. The packages travel continuously in a straight line through the machine. The packages are delivered at the input end of the machine by an in-feed conveyor into a film inverting head where the packages are surrounded by longitudinally half-folded polymer film. Thereafter, the packages are transported to a side sealing mechanism which forms a longitudinal seal in the film on the side opposite the fold. Finally, the packages are transported to a traveling end seal mechanism where a lateral seal is formed at each end of the package and the film web connecting succeeding packages is severed. The machine produces packages which have a sealed film wrap around the entire package.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2001Date of Patent: November 8, 2005Assignee: Belco Packaging Systems, Inc.Inventor: Foster Guzman

Patent number: 6895732Abstract: A packaging apparatus includes a pair of rolls forming a nip through which two web portions are passed with an item to be packaged between the web portions. The rolls include resiliently compliant roll portions that deform to accommodate the thickness of the item, and the roll portions press the web portions to seal them together in peripheral regions surrounding the item and to center the item between the webs in the thickness direction. The apparatus also includes side seal devices that traverse inwardly toward the item to seal the webs together close to the item's opposite side edges to prevent the item from laterally shifting. The web portions may have cohesive disposed on their facing surfaces such that the web portions adhere to each other with pressure but tend not to adhere to the packaged item or other surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2002Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: Sealed Air Corporation (US)Inventors: Laurence B. Patent number: 6834476Abstract: The present invention heat-seals a cover film onto a tray accommodating an item to be packaged, without creating wrinkles in the film. In the present invention, respective touch bars provided at equidistant intervals on chains respectively and continuously move trays accommodating items to be packaged, and a frame to which sealers of the same outline as the trays are fixed moves back and forth at the same speed, in the same direction as the trays. A crank below the frame moving back and forth raises a sealing base frame upwards when the frame advances, the trays are pushed against the sealers positioned above the same, via the moving film, and the film is welded to the open edge of the trays. The movement of the sealing base frame is a box motion, and the efficiency of the sealing operation is increased.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2003Date of Patent: December 28, 2004Assignee: Ibaraki Seiki Machinery Company, Ltd.Inventor: Kazuo Konishi

Patent number: 6526728Abstract: A method and apparatus for grasping and advancing adjacent layers of thermoplastic film through the side sealing mechanism of a packaging machine includes a plurality of belts which travel about two sets of cooperating pulleys. Each pulley has two circumferential belt grooves defined within it, each belt groove being functionally adapted to allow the travel of a belt along it. A first line of travel is defined along a path which is parallel with the line of travel for articles moving along the wrapping machine. The second line of travel diverges away at a slight angle. The belts are truncated V-belts, the “truncated V” portion of the belts being disposed outwardly of the pulleys. Each set of pulleys is offset such that the belts cooperate in tooth-meshing fashion. A tail pulley of each set is mounted in an offset cam fashion and is spring loaded to apply tension to the belts. Disposed between the belt paths is a hot wire assembly having a similarly longitudinally diverging hot wire.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2000Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Assignee: Conflex IncorporatedInventors: Gregg R.
