Patent number: 10926914Abstract: A method and apparatus are shown for securing a top for a cardboard carton where the carton has a bottom wall and integral sidewalls, an initially open interior and initially open top flaps with outwardly extending ears. The top flaps are folded to a carton closing position which closes off the initially open interior of the cardboard carton. The ears are also folded to a position in contact with the sidewalls of the carton. A set of punches are aligned with the folded ears of the carton and are actuated to force a first layer of cardboard from a respective top flap through an underlying region of the carton sidewall. A set of platens are located so as to underlie and reinforce the sidewalls of the carton as the punching operation takes place.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2015Date of Patent: February 23, 2021Inventors: Steve Dunivan, Ricky Jay Hudson, Colby Shane Butcher

Patent number: 8156719Abstract: A packaging apparatus for real-time alignment of packaging surfaces can include two or more sensors for detecting the positioning of carton surfaces and a servo system. The servo system can include a servo motor and a controller. The servo system records the positioning of the carton surfaces and calculates a difference in position. The controller compares the calculated value with a predetermined value and if necessary, the servo motor turns a correction wheel to align the carton surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2010Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: Delkor Systems, Inc.Inventors: Urs Reuteler, Matt M. Mate, Ronald Scott Thompson, Daniel Duane Schroeder, Mike Lee

Patent number: 7200979Abstract: An apparatus for wrapping an object having vertical sides and a top with a hood-shaped foil having a closed end and an open end fits the foil over the object in such a manner that excess-foil projections are formed at the closed end that project outward from the top of the object and an empty space is formed adjacent each projection between the foil and the object. The excess-foil projections are mechanically engaged and physically tucked between the object and the foil to push the projections into the respective empty spaces.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2005Date of Patent: April 10, 2007Assignee: MSK- Verpackungs-Systeme Gesellschaft mit beschrankter HaftungInventor: Reiner Hannen

Patent number: 6945016Abstract: An object having a top and sides is wrapped by first covering it with a hood-shaped foil such that excess-foil projections are formed that project from the top of the object past the sides of the object. Then the foil is pulled adjacent the projections out of contact with the object to form an empty space adjacent each projection between the foil and the object. The excess-foil projections are then tucked into the respective empty spaces, normally on the sides of the object.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2002Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Assignee: MSK-Verpackungs-Systeme Gesellschaft mit Beschrankter HaftungInventor: Reiner Hannen

Patent number: 6941725Abstract: A method for closing a box (1) by folding a lateral closing flap (5) extending from an upper edge (6) of a lateral aperture (7) of the box (1) and having at least one foldable edge (8), while the box (1) is being moved along a packaging line (L) in a forward movement direction (W), includes the steps of folding the lateral flap (5) until a connection line (9) of the foldable edge (8) touches stop means (15), then folding the foldable edge (8) on the striking means (15) and toward the lateral aperture (7) of the box (1), so that an outer edge (8a) of the foldable edge (8) interacts with contrast means (17), which keep elastically the edge (8) in a position raised with respect to a bottom wall (1a) of the box (1), and lastly introducing the edge (8) into the box (1). A device for carrying out the methods has folding means (14) for folding the said lateral flap.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2002Date of Patent: September 13, 2005Assignee: I.M.A. Industria Macchine Automatiche S.p.A.Inventor: Rodolfo Gaudenzi

Patent number: 6598380Abstract: A method and the relative device for packaging ordered groups of products in a carton comprises the following stages: feeding one carton at a time, in the form of a flat pre-folded blank, to a loading table and simultaneous opening of the blank, by means, to form a tubular carton body with two opposite openings one on either side, two first pairs of smaller flaps and two second pairs of larger flaps or lids; folding of the two pairs of smaller flaps, by first means, during carton feed in a preset direction, so as to form a first partial closure of the openings; and closing of the carton body, by second means, by simultaneous folding of the pair of lids towards the two openings so as to obtain a closed package. Patent number: 6266948Abstract: The base of the machine consists of three modular casings (1, 2, 3) which are aligned with one another and fixed together and inside which the synchronized systems for the various work stations are arranged. The frames of the parallel and vertical-axis belts (C1, C2) which are designed to convey the boxes (B) with a vertical arrangement are supported cantilever-fashion by the base casings, via upturned portal structures (6). The operating stations of the machine are supported by the frames of the belts or by the base casings, such that the box conveying line is free at the bottom so as to allow better cleaning and better inspection. The middle module (2) inserts the product (V) into the boxes.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1999Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: BFB S.p.A.Inventor: Franco Serra

Patent number: 6195959Abstract: An automatic packaging machine for forming and filling a latching flip-top box uses a two part mandrel which are joined by a hinge. One of the two hinged parts has a roller thereon for following a cam track having a quarter turn spiral therein. As the roller follows the spiral causing one hinged part to move through a quarter turn causing the flip-top to fold over and be formed. A somewhat loose tab on the top edge of the bottom of the box is a latch tab which is caught when the flip-top folds over.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1999Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: Tisma Machinery CorporationInventor: Petar Tisma
