With Orienting (e.g., Turning Labels Face Out) Patents (Class 53/446)
  • Patent number: 4246739
Abstract: A bifurcated funnel presents small fish in alternating orientation to a canning apparatus. The canning apparatus is moved incrementally forward to receive the oncoming fish by a distance equivalent to the width of that individual fish. A flap is disposed in the funnel and each fish displaces the flap by a distance equivalent to its width. The flap is connected to a ratchet wheel which contains electrical contacts for actuating a plurality of solenoids which determine the position of a stop mechanism for the canning apparatus. The distance of movement of the ratchet wheel is designed in accordance with the size of the apparatus which is to receive the fish. When the ratchet wheel moves its total allotted distance, a set of contacts resets the ratchet wheel and the canning apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4240854
Abstract: Self-adhesive labels mounted on a backing strip are formed into fan-folded sets or stacks and are loaded directly from the fan-folding machine into an open four-sided cassette. The cassettes are made of cardboard, and after they are loaded with fan-folded labels, they are enclosed either by the addition of a fifth side or by wrapping. The cassette packages are then transported to the location where labels are to be applied to products moving along a conveyor. The fan-folded labels are supported in an open L-shaped rack which is tilted and which is of sufficient length to hold at least two sets or cassettes of fan-folded labels side by side. The labels are fed directly into a standard type of label dispenser which applies the labels to products as they are moving along a conveyor line.

  • Patent number: 4209959
Abstract: A magnetic storage system receives electronic axial lead devices, particularly polarized devices such as diodes, that are advancing axially from a sorter. The storage system includes a chute assembly with an upper run that funnels the devices to a stop wall spaced from the lower end of the run. The stopped device forms an acute angle with a magnetic field extending horizontally across the chute assembly to produce a controlled rotation of the device to a horizontal orientation. The reoriented device falls through the spacing to a lower chute run that guides it in a lateral mode of advance to a bin cassette replaceably secured between a pair of magnet pole pieces. The pole pieces have a tapered thickness to develop a downwardly increasing magnetic flux density that promotes a high packing density of the devices in the cassette. A flapper valve is manually operable to block movement of the devices on the second chute assembly while a loaded cassette is being replaced with an empty cassette.

  • Patent number: 4189898
Abstract: An egg packer in which the eggs are aligned while being conveyed to a transfer position with the eggs thereat having their narrow ends in an abutting relation with a transversely disposed vertical wall. A receptacle is disposed adjacent the end of the conveyor into which the eggs are guided with the larger end of the egg first entering into the receptacle. Upon rotation of the receptacle, the egg is turned and assumes a position with the narrow end facing downwardly. A pair of shell members receive the egg and move it into alignment with the egg carton or other receiving means at which the shell members are opened and the egg is deposited with the narrow end thereof downwardly facing.

  • Patent number: 4156335
Abstract: Strip sections holding securing elements such as nails or screws are stacked, for example, in cartons so that the nail heads or screw heads come to rest in alternate opposite directions. For this purpose the strips slide down an inclined guide chute in a given direction until the heads are held by support elements which are movable alternately and laterally outwardly substantially at right angles to said given direction. Thus, one support element still supports the heads while the other support is withdrawn from the holding position whereby the strips, as they fall downwardly, rotate alternately, through an angle of 90.degree. whereupon the strips are intercepted, for example, by a tiltable chute.

  • Patent number: 4124967
Abstract: Apparatus for placing flexible packages in a rigid container incorporates an infeed chute and diverter gate system for directing packages into a rotatable load head in preselected fashion. After the load head is filled, the packages are released therefrom into an empty shipping container located below the load head. The apparatus incorporates a control system which activates the components of the system in preselected cyclic fashion to enable continuous packaging in a rapid manner. The apparatus is especially suitable for the handling of flexible packages of fluid products such as milk. A method of effecting continuous packaging is also described.
