  • Patent number: 5636497
Abstract: The present invention provides a sturdy display package which, in an embodiment, is made of first and second peripherally sealed transparent PVC sheets approximately 7.5 mils thick each. The package is particularly useful for displaying and protecting small items such as pain reliever packets or condoms. The invention includes a method and apparatus for making such a package. The first sheet is positioned over a nesting plate having a plurality of nesting modules, each corresponding to one package and being independently height-adjustable by a shim at a selected location to correct sealing flaws. The second sheet is then positioned over the first sheet so that the items are between the sheets. An RF-sealing die is provided having package-shaped sealing dies, each defining a pocket. The sealing die and nesting plate are pressed together so that each pocket receives a bulge formed by from one of the items.

Abstract: A portion of film, with a length proportionate to the dimensions and to the characteristics of the product to be wrapped, is subjected to a transverse pre-stretching, the extent of which is also proportionate to the said parameters. The film is held at one end by a fixed dispenser (30) and at the other end by a movable rear clamp (61), which conveniently reduce the longitudinal tension of the film, both in pre-stretching and during the subsequent lifting of the product. In this phase, the side clamps (78-178) approach each other to reduce the pre-stretching, and are then inserted under the product and are opened, to extend the side flaps of the film under the product.

  • Patent number: 4563861
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of packing collected objects having different shapes and volumes, and to a packing station therefor. The method consists in assembling beforehand the objects to be dispatched in a container having a retractable bottom; the container is lowered towards an open-top chest covered with a plasticized film. The bottom of the container is removed so that the objects bear directly upon the plasticized film, whereafter vacuum is created in the inner volume of the chest in order to alter the shape of the plasticized film and thus lower the top level of the objects. Then the container is removed in turn and a rigid support is laid upon the objects and bonded to the plasticized film at the level of the flange of the aperture; finally, the vacuum is discontinued in the chest for releasing the package thus obtained. This invention is applicable more particularly to the mail order industry and the dispatching of goods in general.

Abstract: A system for wrapping and sealing objects, such as fresh heads of lettuce, may include two fabric tube type iris valves which are capable of fully closing and opening up to a diameter greater than the object to be wrapped and sealed. The two iris valves may be mounted one above the other; then a sheet of plastic wrap film material is dispensed over the top iris valve, and a head of lettuce is set in place on the sheet of plastic. The sheet of plastic may be dispensed from a roll automatically and may be cut either mechanically or by a hot wire, for example. The upper iris valve is open end, and then, as the head of lettuce or other object slides through and is supported by the lower iris valve, the upper valve is at least substantially closed, rotating and drawing together the edges of the plastic wrap. The plastic sheet material is then heat sealed above the head of lettuce, either above or below the upper iris valve.

  • Patent number: 4519183
Abstract: A sheet of flexible material such as fabric or plastic is provided with flaps, loops and ties so that it can be laid over a pile of loose material with rigid sticks attached to loops along two parallel edges of the sheet and the rigid sticks can be grasped by the user and forced together between the surface and the material forming an open ended envelope containing the material which is then turned over and the flaps at the end of the envelope pulled up and tied over the ends to close the envelope while the two sides made rigid by the sticks are tied together. Then the sticks may be removed leaving the flexible sheet formed into an envelope that encloses the material and so forming a bag containing the material for disposal.

  • Patent number: 4510735
Abstract: The object to be wrapped is deposited on thin aluminium foil which extends over the mouth of a forming device comprising an annulus and a plurality of resilient blades each fixed at one end to the annulus and converging at their other, free ends towards a first half mould having a hemispherical cavity coaxial with the annulus. A push rod is advanced axially of the preforming device to push the object and the aluminium foil between the resilient blades, making the foil adhere to the leading surface of the object and effecting a first moulding of the aluminium foil around the trailing surface of the object. The partially wrapped object is expelled from the forming device the blades of which close to effect a second moulding of the aluminium foil over the trailing surface of the object, forming a rear projection in the form of a tail constituted by that part of the aluminium foil which does not adhere to the object.
