  • Patent number: 7559187
Abstract: An apparatus for strapping a packaged item using at least two strapping elements, which can be placed crosswise on the packaged item. A transport unit moves the packaged item into a strapping position a guide device for the strapping elements. The guide device arranges the strapping elements around the packaged item and defines intersecting areas of movement for the strapping elements. A binding device inserts and/or tensions the strapping elements and connects overlapping areas of the strapping elements. In order to permit the strapping of a greater number applications, a connection mechanism is provided to connect the strapping elements in the immediate environment of a crossover location of the strapping elements and/or at the crossover location of the strapping elements. It is also possible to effect the connection using a single sealing stamp.

  • Patent number: 7318305
Abstract: A packaging machine for wrapping packing pieces with packing film. The packing machine includes a transport device for the packing pieces, at least one unspooling device for unspooling the packing film wound on a roller, a film welding and cutting unit, and a film buffer arranged between the film welding and cutting unit and the unspooling device. The film support is formed of a flexible, anti-static material which ensures particularly easy pulling off of the packing film from the film buffer. The film support inhibits or prevents the plastic film from incurring a static charge, thereby reducing or eliminating adhesion forces would have to be overcome as a result of electrostatic charges when pulling the plastic film off of the film buffer.

  • Patent number: 6138438
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically placing lengths of poly sheet from a roll of poly sheet onto the second-from-the-top tier of a lumber package includes a poly roll holder, and a plurality of grip clamps. The grip clamps may have rubber pads for improved friction when gripping the POLY sheet. The gripping clamps are mounted on a carriage which is in turn mounted on a trolley. The trolley is selectively translated back and forth over an exposed tier in a stack of lumber. The gripping clamps grasp the free end of the poly sheet so that the ploy sheet is drawn over the exposed tier as the trolley is translated.

  • Patent number: 5163265
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for wrapping a sheet about an external surface of a flexible member to package the flexible member. The apparatus comprises a mechanism for receiving and clamping a free end of the sheet and a first portion of the flexible member, as well as a mechanism for spacing a second portion of the flexible member a preselected distance from the first portion thereof. The apparatus further comprises a mechanism for moving the receiving and clamping mechanism to urge the spacing mechanism toward the receiving and clamping mechanism so that movement of the receiving and clamping mechanism wraps the flexible member and sheet with the sheet being wrapped about the external surface of the flexible member.

  • Patent number: 4748793
Abstract: An attachment for a newspaper rolling machine for applying a waterproof covering, preferably cling-type film, around the rolled newspaper. During the rolling of the newspaper (21), the web is fed into the nip of the partially rolled newspaper by the downward movement of pivoted feed arm (9) which grips the web by way of feed rollers (15, 16). Prior to the completion of the rolling action, the feed arm is pivoted upwards and pivoted lever (17) with hot wire cutter (18) pivots downwards to sever the web at a point so as to provide a sufficient length of web to completely envelope the rolled newspaper and maintain it in its rolled condition.

  • Patent number: 4694959
Abstract: Bags in a series have first and second end portions with the bags being separated from one another except for links that connect the first end portions of the bags into a continuous chain, which is wound upon itself on a storage reel. Such winding may be in a vertical spiral fashion, or it may be by engagement by a separable continuous strip, such as a ribbon tape across the second end portions of the bags as reeled upon a core, thereby maintaining the bags in the chain substantially free from skewing relative to one another. Method and apparatus for effecting the reeling of the bag chain are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4563857
Abstract: A method for stretch film wrapping of goods aggregates (6) in a line operation including keeping the stretch film tensioned between a ready-wrapped goods aggregate and a stretch film store, and forming a new goods aggregate (6) by moving at least two articles towards each other and into contact with either side of the stretch film so that the stretch film is clamped between the articles (4) in the new goods aggregate. The stretch film can then be parted between the new goods aggregate and the ready-wrapped goods aggregate (6'), after which the new goods aggregate (6) is wrapped with stretch film with the aid of a conventional wrapping means. An apparatus for carrying out the method includes, apart from a conventional stretch film wrapping apparatus, means (8) for ejecting a wrapped goods aggregate (6') from the wrapping station.

  • Patent number: 4528794
Abstract: Apparatus for temporary storage of successive portions of a continuous stream of paper sheets has a transporting unit which advances the stream along a horizontal path, a frame which defines for successive rotary cores an elongated guideway above the path, a two-armed lever which can support a fresh reel containing a supply of wound flexible band material at a level below the path, and chains which can transport successive cores from the inlet portion to the outlet portion of the guideway in parallelism with the path. The lever is indexible through 180 degrees and carries two spindles each of which can support a reel. The leader of the band on a reel on one of the spindles is attached to an empty core in the inlet portion of the guideway while a pawl intercepts the foremost sheets of the stream in the path and while the empty core is rotated by the belts of the transporting unit.

  • Patent number: 4374463
Abstract: Unit sheet-stacks each as a stack of a given number of sheets are successively transferred to a bundling device for bundling the unit sheet-stacks. The bundling device includes a unit sheet-stack transfer mechanism, a mechanism for previously forming a bundling loop, and a mechanism for bundling the unit sheet-stack. The transfer mechanism receives the unit sheet-stack in a state that each sheet is postured substantially horizontally and transfers the unit sheet-stack in a state that each sheet is postured substantially vertically to a given position. The bundling loop forming mechanism previously forms a bundling loop by winding the free end portion of a tape by a given number of turns.

  • Patent number: 4126982
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for binding a stack of paper sheets such as paper money with a binding tape or band. The winding of the binder tape around the paper stack is effected after the leading end portion of the binder tape has been securely inserted into the paper stack. For inserting the leading end portion of the tape into the paper stack, a gap for receiving the tape leading end is formed by a divider or splitter means comprising a reciprocably movable plate formed with a knife edge which is movable toward the paper stack and which can penetrate into the stack, to thereby form the gap as the paper stack is fed toward a predetermined winding position, at which position the paper stack is supported on a stationary platform having an upper surface formed with an arcuate recess.
