Publication number: 20020134056Abstract: The present invention comprises a machine for the packaging of goods in a box. A conveyor receives a designated number of goods between a series of successive flights situated on the top surface of the conveyor. The conveyor transports the goods up an incline and then over a steep decline, or waterfall. The waterfall nests the goods on a surface of the lead flight. The waterfall is covered so that the goods do not fall off of the conveyor as it goes over the waterfall. The conveyor then reaches a belt return, wherein the lead flight moves out from underneath the goods and drops the goods into the box. The box is positioned underneath the waterfall to receive the goods by the action of an intermittent conveyor. A sensor is positioned to verify that the queued box has received the goods. If the sensor does not indicate to the second conveyor that the queued box has not received the goods, the intermittent second conveyor will not move the box.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2000Publication date: September 26, 2002Inventors: Paul E. Publication number: 20020053184Abstract: A packaging machine that uses cylinders to automatically adjust the pressure gradient on a web feed roller system is presented. The cylinders are controlled by an air operated or an electrical sensing device that senses the edge of the web. When the sensor detects the web rising it will increase the pressure on bottom of the feed rollers and lower the pressure at the top. This action drives the web down. When the web falls below the proper height the reverse happens and the web is driven back up. This system creates a seeking process that is always driving the web to the correct height. The system can also be used on a pivoting feed roller system. The sensor feedback turns an eccentric that changes the pressure gradient, moving the web to the proper height.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2001Publication date: May 9, 2002Applicant: Klockner Bartelt, Inc.Inventor: Kevin L. Patent number: 6050053Abstract: An improvement to prior art bag closure affixing devices of the type embodied in U.S. Pat. No. 3,163,967 to easily accommodate bags of various neck widths without the need for gear or sprocket changes. The improvement encompasses a modified clutch control for the bag closing head. The clutch is controlled by a clutch actuating arm which is mechanically connected to the clutch. When the actuating arm is depressed, the clutch disengages from a first stop surface and rotates only partially until engaging a second stop surface. The second stop surface remains in contact with the clutch, preventing completion of the closing cycle, until the bag neck completely passes over the actuating arm and the actuating arm is released. Patent number: 6038967Abstract: A strapping machine and method for applying flexible heat-sealable straps around objects includes a programmable control system that receives encoder and other signals from various sensors in the machine to regulate each strapping cycle. A feed/tension unit provides primary tensioning of the strap about the object based on signals from the control system. A motor driven roller and a pinch roller in the feed/tension unit each providing separate encoder signals to the control system to assist the control system in advancing and retracting the strap during feed and tensioning sequences, respectively, and provide signals indicating an exact position of the strap. A secondary tension system provides a final high tensioning force on the strap. The control system can automatically adjust individual strapping cycles, including tensioning, to compensate for various size bundles and different types of objects. Thereafter, a sealing head heat seals the strap and severs the sealed strap from the remaining strap coil.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1998Date of Patent: March 21, 2000Assignee: Ovalstrapping, Inc.Inventors: Yee C. Patent number: 6021629Abstract: A registration system for a packaging machine, which machine seals tray tops with thermoplastic film. The trays are carried through the machine on a moving conveyor and the sealing film is fed in a ribbon from a feed roll to move in a position above the line of trays carried on the moving conveyor. The film ribbon carries printing or decorations, in repetitive segments, which must each be centered on a respective tray top when the film is sealed thereto. Repetitive registration marks carried on the film ribbon indicate the position of each film segment as it moves toward a heat seal station. The registration marks are optically sensed in time with the timing pulses of the packaging machine. When miss-registration is sensed the film position, relative to the leading edge of the tray adjacent to and next to enter the heat seal station, is indexed forward a predetermined increment by a downward operating blade and then a heat bar contacts the film and tacks it to the leading edge of that tray.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1998Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: SKS Equipment Co, Inc.Inventor: Robert A.
