  • Patent number: 9278113
Abstract: The present disclosure describes compositions operable for releasing nitric oxide under photochemical conditions. The compositions include a titanium dioxide nanomaterial and a nitric oxide-releasing compound deposited on the titanium dioxide nanomaterial that is operable to release nitric oxide under photochemical conditions. Titanium dioxide nanomaterials include, for example, titanium dioxide nanotubes. To facilitate the photochemical release of nitric oxide, some embodiments of the compositions further include a semiconductor that is deposited on the titanium dioxide nanotubes. Both the semiconductor and the nitric oxide-releasing compound may be deposited on the interior surface, exterior surface, or both of the titanium dioxide nanotubes. A polymer may wrap the titanium dioxide nanotubes to protect the nitric oxide-releasing compounds from moisture. Also disclosed herein are methods for producing such compositions and medical devices obtained therefrom.

  • Publication number: 20120220751
Abstract: Bis-diazo, triaryl and aryldiazo-N-arylphenazonium quencher moieties, substituted with electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents which induce polarity in the delocalized aryl/diazo ring systems, are useful as labels when attached to biomolecules such as polynucleotides, nucleosides, nucleotides and polypeptides. The quencher moieties are non-fluorescent and accept energy transfer from fluorescent reporter labels by any energy-transfer mechanism, such as FRET. Fluorescence quencher compositions are useful in preparing quencher labeled biomolecules for various molecular biology assays based on fluorescence detection.

  • Patent number: 4629290
Abstract: Asymmetric trans-4,4'-dialkyl-ONN-azoxybenzenes having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are straight-chain alkyl groups having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and R.sub.1 .noteq.R.sub.2 are provided. The azoxybenzene compounds are prepared by condensing corresponding P-alkylaniline ##STR2## and P-alkylnitrobenzene ##STR3## placing the reaction mixture into ammonium chloride and hydrolyzing to yield the asymmetrical azoxybenzene compound, corresponding asymmetrical azobenzene compound and asymmetric azobenzene compound. The asymmetric azoxy compound is then separated from the mixture by column chromotography and recrystallization. The asymmetric azoxybenzene compounds have a wide range of nematic liquid crystal temperature and are particularly well suited for liquid crystal compositions for use in matrix-addressing driving systems.
