Abstract: The present invention comprises a sock for use on the leg of a horse or ungulate, such as a cow, donkey or other hoofed animal. In the preferred embodiment the sock is tubular in shape having an upper opening and a lower opening. The sock is generally comprised of an upper cuff, main body and lower cuff. The upper cuff and main body are configured to frictionally engage creating a circumferential force on the leg of the horse such that the sock will not easily slip down on the leg of the horse. Expanded knit around the knee joint and fetlock joints allow for the free motion of those joints thus alleviating contrary forces that would normally and otherwise cause the sock to be pulled down by that motion. The lower cuff is configured to expand over said hoof of said ungulate and when over the hoof conform to or hug the small pastern.

  • Patent number: 7795162
Abstract: A fabric (10) for an animal rug, having a mesh pattern of a size suitable for preventing penetration and biting by insects, has a mesh of woven fibers (11), forming rectangular spaces (12) therebetween. Each weft (13) and warp (14) is formed from a soft, inner, multifilament fiber (15) sandwiched between a pair of relatively stiffer, outer, monofilament fibers (16). The fabric (10) is strong and stable, yet soft and light, and it is also absorbent. The outer, monofilament fibers provide the stability of the mesh pattern by locking the soft, inner, multifilament fiber (15) in place. However, a certain amount of movement between the wefts and the warps is possible resulting in a fabric, which will mould around the body of the animal.

  • Publication number: 20100043725
Abstract: A canine protective suit comprising a face mask, a upper body protector and a lower body protector, wherein the face mask is removably secured to the upper body protector, and wherein the lower body protector is removably secured to the upper body protector. The upper body protector comprises elastic bands, wherein the elastic bands secure at least two front leg panels. Similarly, the lower body protector comprises elastic bands, wherein the elastic bands secure at least two back leg panels. To use, a canine's two front legs are placed into the two front leg panels as the upper body protector is placed on the canine. Similarly, the canine's rear legs are inserted into the back leg panels as the lower body protector is installed on the canine. The face mask is then disposed on the canine's face and secured to the upper body protector.

  • Patent number: 7618390
Abstract: An integrated bandaging system for encircling the abdomen of a horse. A ventral access opening selectively provides access to the horse's abdomen while the bandage remains in place. This ventral access opening is normally covered by a ventral window cover. However, the window cover may be easily opened so that an old dressing can be removed, an abdominal wound can be cleaned, and a new dressing applied. The invention has four major components: a main wrap, a saddle bridge, a ventral window cover, and a brace. The main wrap is easily placed around the horse's abdomen and secured using VELCRO® fasteners. It includes the ventral access opening. The saddle bridge attaches over the top of the main wrap and adjustably applies tension to the horse's mid section. The ventral window cover attaches over the ventral access opening and provides further adjustment of the tension on the abdomen. The brace applies over the points of the horse's shoulders, between the front legs, and over the ventral chest region.

  • Patent number: 7243485
Abstract: A variable stretch horse blanket 13, shown in FIG. 3, of the type comprising either a single layer body of specialized, breathable and stretchable fabric 10, 11, or its alternative comprising a single layer body comprised of a plurality of permanently attached specially sized, paired, and positioned sections of specialized, breathable and stretchable fabric 76 through 106, as depicted in FIG. 8, with neck fastening means 24, 26, belly strap fastening means 54, 55, leg fastening assemblies 51, 53 and a supple reinforced portion 22. The specialized, breathable and stretchable fabric 10,11 or its alternative 76 through 106 can be manufactured to permit either a dominant two-way stretch as depicted by one of twelve representative vector arrows 25, or variable dominant stretching in a plurality of directions as depicted by one of a multiplicity of vector arrows 108 shown in FIG. 8.

  • Patent number: 7117659
Abstract: A safety ensemble with inherent, highly visible radiance/luminosity and a releasable link to allow the animal to shed the ensemble if it becomes dangerously snagged. The ensemble takes the form of bridle, collar, halter or harness, for draping/encircling a portion of an animal's body, and includes at least one strap member, the opening or separation of which allows the animal to break free of the ensemble. The safety link is realized in disengaging-resetting elements, as well as frangible/breakable-replaceable types. Inherent high visibility is acquired through use of highly luminous, reflective or radiant materials in or placed on selective elements of any article of the invention.

  • Publication number: 20040244342
Abstract: A safety turn out garment for a horse to wear, inter alia, during hunting season and at night, is made from highly visible (e.g., blaze orange) fabric, which may be made from mesh fabric, and has highly reflective strips affixed thereto. Such garment may be made into an equine fly mask or an equine sheet/blanket, which retains the function of conventional equine fly mask or turn out sheet, yet provides better safety for the horse.

  • Patent number: 6539898
Abstract: An outer layer of mesh material is used to loosely cover the exterior of an animal blanket to provide a protective buffer against damage caused by impact and abrasion experienced during use. The mesh material utilized in the manufacture of the outer protective layer is made with a high-strength polyester yarn that has been extrusion-coated with a polyvinyl chloride sheath. This fiber material has been found to have physical characteristics that are particularly advantageous for this protective application. Specifically, in addition to the light weight, strength and flexibility provided by the inner core of the fiber, the PVC coating provides temperature stability and resistance to color fade, abrasion, flame, and mildew.

  • Patent number: 6318054
Abstract: An outer layer of mesh material is used to loosely cover the exterior of a horse blanket such as to provide a protective buffer against damage caused by impact and abrasion experienced during use. The mesh material is preferably connected to the blanket through releasable fasteners only along its edges, thereby leaving it relatively free to slide over the blanket's outer sheet in case of entanglements. The mesh is selected of sufficient density to essentially prevent contact of the blanket's surface with abutting objects, but also with mesh openings sufficiently large to prevent a reduction of the blanket's aeration and to minimize the impact of additional weight. In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, an all-purpose blanket includes multiple layers suitable for all weather conditions. The inner layer of the blanket consists of a soft permeable material to provide breathability and comfort.
