Cohesive Filter Media Cleaning Patents (Class 55/301)
  • Patent number: 11333111
Abstract: An air filter for heavy dust conditions has an efficient scavenging system. The air filter includes: a housing, a permeable filter, and a scavenger system. The scavenger system disposes of particles collected on the upstream surface of the permeable filter. The scavenger system includes: an air suction source, and a shutter. The shutter is positioned substantially along, typically below, the permeable filter, at a certain distance from a wall, typically the bottom wall, of the housing. The air suction source draws air from a collecting space located between the shutter and the wall of the housing. The shutter is being selectively operated to permit or restrict passage there-through. The air suction source efficiently operates to scavenge particles from the collecting space when the passage through the shutter is at least partially restricted.

The quarter sections of the compartments are modular and sized so that they can be fabricated at a shop located away from the power plant site and transported by truck over public roads to the power plant site. Once delivered to the site, the quarter sections are bolted together and seal welded to form a PJFF compartment, without requiring additional internal fabrication or welding. The assembled compartment is then lifted onto the support structure as an assembled unit and bolted and/or welded in place. The smooth interior and offset relationship of the inflow and outflow passages causes air to take a cyclonic path between the inflow passage and the filter. Debris in the airstream is pushed outward—away from the filter—by centripetal force. Eddies form proximate the base. Debris escapes the airstream there, where it either remains or, depending upon the chamber's orientation relative to gravity, falls back into the airflow where it is again directed away from the filter.

Abstract: A diesel particulate filter of a motor vehicle is cleaned of diesel particulate material like ash and possibly soot, typically using equipment already available in a service shop following the method and diesel particulate filter cleaning apparatus of the invention. The diesel particulate filter cleaning apparatus has an air chamber that is coupled to a vibrator and is attached to the diesel particulate filter. The vibrator vibrates the air chamber and the diesel particulate filter to dislodge the diesel particulate material. Air is introduced into the air chamber and into the diesel particulate filter to further remove the diesel particulate material from the diesel particulate filter.
