Media Within Joinable Or Separable Flow Line Sections Patents (Class 55/503)
  • Patent number: 6808552
Abstract: Filtration method and device for filtering solid contaminants from a stream of a flowing fluid such as internal combustion engine intake air. An imperforate housing has a tubular inlet exiting at its downstream end into a conically divergent first wall section terminating in a maximum diameter apex. A convergent second wall section terminates at a housing outlet opening of greater diameter than that of the housing inlet. A perforate filter element disposed within the housing conical portions has an exterior configuration generally complimental to the housing interior, and thus has a first generally conical divergent section, and a second generally conical downstream section convergent from a maximum diameter apex of the filter element and defining the filter device outlet. The housing and filter element define therebetween first and second frustoconical annular fluid flow chambers of successively diminishing cross-sectional radial thickness in the direction of downstream fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 6790251
Abstract: A skull-shaped air filter housing comprising a housing removably attached to a fitting. A jaw is hingedly attached along a lower edge of a face on the housing. The face has eye intake(s), a nose intake, and a jaw intake. When the jaw is open, air enters a housing cavity through the jaw intake. Means of rotating the jaw are disclosed, including cable actuation, spring biasing, and pneumatic actuators. The housing may contain a light for aesthetic purposes. The fitting may incorporate a fitting lumen diameter reduction at its intake to cool and compress air sent to the carburetor. When ram air enters the skull-shaped air filter housing and is sent to the carburetor, it is compressed and therefore denser, and fuel in the carburetor bowl is also compressed, resulting in a power increase in the engine.

Abstract: A panel filter element having pleated filter paper media and precut gasket made of polyester felt is mounted in a tray inserted into the air intake housing of an internal combustion engine, wherein the air intake housing is made of NYLON® material. By having a peripheral gasket made of polyester felt, the gasket does not adhere to portions of the housing and tray. This allows the panel filter element to be easily removed from the housing. This is an improvement over polyurethane gaskets which adhere to the NYLON® of the housing when NYLON® and polyurethane are exposed to engine heat.

  • Patent number: 6752846
Abstract: An air filter and corresponding filter element for use in an internal combustion engine are disclosed. The filter element has a seal bead made of an elastomeric material that forms the frame of the filter element. A pleat block, made of a filter media, is molded into the seal bead in a first area of the filter element and a baffle is located in a second area of the filter element to protect the pleat block from wetting. A channel is formed in one side of the seal bead which allows the filter element to be retained during assembly without the use of fasteners and a surface is formed opposite the seal bead that in conjunction with the channel seals the filter element within the air filter when the air filter is fully assembled. The air filter has an intake silencing chamber that is located to receive outside air before it is provided to the pleat block and a sealed flow path is created from the intake silencing chamber to the pleat block by a third area of the filter element.

  • Patent number: 6508851
Abstract: A filter including a housing with a bottom shell (11) and a cover (13) for receiving a filter element (10). The filter element has a seal (17) that is made of non-woven material and is also used as a filtering medium. The filter element is clamped in a slot (16) between clamping ribs (20) and clamping grooves (21). Manufacturing tolerances of the housing parts can thus be compensated over a wide range. This leads to improved economic efficiency in the manufacturing process, especially as regards the production of synthetic resin housings. In addition, the assembly and retaining forces acting between the parts of the housing can be reduced, thereby simplifying the assembly process.

  • Patent number: 6475255
Abstract: An air filter/oil separator assembly comprises a housing having an outer wall and a channel disposed therein between a primary gas inlet and a primary gas outlet. An air filter is joined to the primary gas inlet for filtering air from the immediate environment for introduction into an engine intake system. The housing includes a secondary inlet port through the outer wall, for receiving an air-oil mixture taken from an engine crankcase breather, and a secondary outlet port through the channel wall. A baffle is disposed axially within the housing and extends axially between the outer wall and the channel wall. The baffle, outer wall, and channel wall together define a first and second air flow passageway between the secondary inlet and secondary outlet ports. A removable filter element is disposed within at least one of the first and second passageways to capture air-borne particulate matter and/or aid in the coalescence and separation of oil within the air-oil mixture.
