Patent number: 8716505Abstract: The present invention discloses a commercial process for the production of refined palm oil rich in natural carotene. The process for the production of natural carotene rich refined oil comprises the steps of: (i) fractionating crude palm oil to form a liquid fraction and a solid portion; (ii) separating the liquid fraction from the solid portion; (iii) degumming the liquid fraction; (iv) neutralizing the degummed liquid fraction to substantially remove free tatty acids and impurities; (v) washing off the soap resulting from the neutralization step; and (vi) deodorizing the neutralized the product of step (v) to remove remaining free fatty acids and other impurities contained therein, thus forming a refined palm oil that contains less than 0.1% free fatty acid, has a carotene content retained of about 75%, an iodine value of less than 60 and a peroxide value of zero.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2009Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Sime Darby Research Sdn. Bhd.Inventors: Khairuddin Hashim, Mohd Suria Affandi Yusoff, Razam Adb Latip, Ananthan Krishnan

Patent number: 6518443Abstract: The oil seed is first of all comminuted and then formed into flakes by means of rolling, before it is supplied to the recovery of oil. The flakes are charged into a transporting mixer, to which steam and/or water are supplied at the same time, and the flakes in the mixer are transported to the outlet of the mixer with a dwell time of 5 to 50 seconds. With a moisture content of 8 to 20 wt-% and with temperatures in the range from 90 to 110° C., the flakes are withdrawn from the mixer and passed through an annealing zone, in which the flakes are moved over heated trays with dwell times of 15 to 50 minutes and temperatures in the range from 90 to 110° C. The flakes are withdrawn from the annealing zone with a residual moisture which still amounts to at least half the moisture content at the inlet of the annealing zone, and are passed through a drying and cooling zone in which the flakes are converted to granules which are supplied to the recovery of oil.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2001Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: MG Technologies AGInventors: Wolfgang Beyer, Rüdiger Heilmann

Patent number: 6436244Abstract: Fluorinated emulsifier acids bound to an anion exchanger resin can be eluted using a mixture of water, a compound of the formula M—X, in which M is an alkali metal or an alkylammonium ion, and X is hydroxyl, fluoride or chloride, and at least one organic solvent which completely dissolves the other components. For work-up of the eluent, this is advantageously subjected to steam distillation until all volatile constituents have been essentially removed, and the emulsifier acid is liberated from the steam distillation residue using a sufficiently strong acid. This emulsifier acid can advantageously be distilled off and collected as the ammonium salt in aqueous ammonia solution.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2000Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Dyneon GmbHInventors: Stephan Führer, Gernot Löhr, Werner Schwertfeger

Patent number: 6420578Abstract: A process for recovering 18-methyl eicosanoic acid (18-MEA) and/or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) from woolwax acids or derivatives thereof comprises the steps of heating the woolwax acids or derivatives thereof to 100 to 230° C. to form estolides and polymeric species; distilling to obtain a distillate (D1) and a residue (R1); and recovering 18-MEA from the distillate and/or recovering AHAs from the residue.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1999Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Croda International PLCInventors: Richard Neil Cawthorne, Robert William Humble, David Andrew Parker
