    Abstract: A process can prepare a colourless, methanolic solution of 3-(N-benzyl-2-aminoethyl)aminopropyltrimethoxysilane hydrochloride. The process includes, in step 1 fractionally distilling the vinylbenzyl chloride reactant component with addition of at least one stabilizer, and in step 2, metering and mixing the distillate (vinylbenzyl chloride) from step 1 into an initial charge of N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane and methanol in a molar ratio of the N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane to vinylbenzyl chloride of 1.0:0.80 to 1.0:1.15 and at a temperature in the range from 40 to 60° C. and leaving them to react further. The colourless, methanolic solution has an APHA colour number of <200 mg Pt—Co/l.

    Abstract: A surface-modified inorganic material and a preparation method thereof. A surface-modified inorganic material is provided which is obtained by allowing an organosilane compound having allyl or an allyl derivative to react with an inorganic material, particularly solid silica or ITO glass, in the presence of an acid and an organic solvent, to introduce an organic group into the inorganic material even at room temperature, as well as a preparation method thereof. The invention can effectively introduce the organic group into the inorganic material even at room temperature, and thus is very effective in introducing compounds having a thermally sensitive functional group, for example, natural compounds or proteins. It is possible to introduce various organic groups into an inorganic material and to separate and purify organic molecule-bonded organosilane compounds using a silica gel column to effectively bond them to inorganic materials.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method of using Schwartz Reagent, Cp2Zr(H)Cl, without accumulating or isolating it. Methods provide mixtures of Cp2ZrCl2, reductants that selectively reduce Cp2ZrCl2, and substrates. After reaction of Cp2ZrCl2 and the reductant, an intermediate reduction product is formed, apparently Schwartz Reagent. The in situ Schwartz Reagent then selectively reduces certain functional groups on the substrate. Substrates include tertiary amides, tertiary benzamides, aryl O-carbamates, and heteroaryl N-carbamates, which are reduced to aldehydes, benzaldehydes, aromatic alcohols, and heteroaromatics, respectively. Compared to prior methods, reagents are inexpensive and stable, reaction times are short, and reaction temperature in certain cases is conveniently room temperature. It has been estimated that using the in situ method described herein instead of synthesized or commercially obtained Schwartz Reagent provides a 50% reduction in cost.
