Abstract: A bleach precursor compound, its peroxygen acid derivative, and detergent compositions containing these materials are disclosed herein. The bleach precursor structurally comprises a quaternized ammonium or phosphonium group linked to a carbonate moiety having a leaving group. Upon perhydrolysis in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and a basic aqueous media, there is generated a peroxycarbonic acid bleach.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to novel compounds of the class of the p-sulphophenyl carbonates, viz. mono-p-sulphophenyl carbonates derived from ethoxylated alcohols and bis-p-sulphophenyl dicarbonates derived from alkane diols and poly(ethylene glycols). The novel compounds are efficient bleaching activators. The disclosure also relates to detergent additives and detergent compositions wherein the novel compounds are contained.
