Abstract: 5, 5-Bis(perfluoroalkylheteromethyl)-2-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane s, derived acyclic phosphorus and phosphoric acids obtained by ring-opening, and salts or esters thereof are prepared from heteroatom containing perfluoroalkyl terminated neopentyl glycols of the formula: HO[CH.sub.2 C(CH.sub.2 -X-E.sub.n -R.sub.f).sub.2 CH.sub.2)]H by cyclization with appropriate phosphorus containing esters or acids, or hydrolysis. These compositions provide improved thermal stability, and useful low surface energy oil and water repellent coatings for textiles, glass, paper, leather and other materials.Another aspect of this invention relates to the use of the phosphite group containing products as polymer stabilizers.
Abstract: Preparation of phosphites which are stable to hydrolysis from organic phosphites or phosphorus-halogen compounds and an ammonium salt of a hydroxysulfonic acid which is insoluble in water and soluble in an organic solvent. The compounds are useful in making catalysts for the hydroformylation reaction.

Abstract: It has now been discovered that oligomers of C.sub.6 - C.sub.20 alpha-olefins, such as 1-decene, with branch ratios below 0.19 and high viscosity indices (HVI) can be functionalized to provide unique phosphite derivatives. Functionalized polyalpha-olefin lubricants compositions are prepared with superior properties by adding functionalized organophosphites to the olefinic bond of HVI-PAO. The invention encompasses a process for the preparation of lubricant range hydrocarbons containing phosphonate functional groups, comprising;reacting olefinic C.sub.20 + polyalpha-olefin oligomers having a branch ratio of less than 0.19 and phosphite ester in a mixture with peroxide catalyst at elevated temperature whereby phosphite ester adduct of said polyalpha-olefin is formed;separating said reaction mixture products and recovering said adduct.

Abstract: New organic phosphorus compounds, comprised of hetero-phosphacycloalkanes whose phosphorus atom forms a complex with a borane. They can be prepared by the action of a borane on a hetero-phosphacycloalkane, within a solvent, at temperatures ranging from -20.degree. to +60.degree. C. Their transformation into other derivatives, phosphinites or phosphines in particular, can be carried out without any modification in the chirality of the initial complex. An especially useful application is their conversion into highly optically active phosphines, used in particular as catalysts in various reactions.

Abstract: Process for the recovery of a transition metal from an aqueous solution containing a complex of the transition metal with a cyclic phosphite by hydrolyzing the cyclic phosphite, contacting the hydrolysis reaction mixture with a compound forming a water-stable complex with the transition metal, extracting the reaction mixture thus formed with an organic extraction agent for the water-stable complex and separating an organic extract phase containing the transition metal from an aqueous raffinate phase. The process is particularly suitable for the recovery of the Rh or Co from spent hydroformylation catalysts and of Pd from spent carbonylation catalysts.
