  • Patent number: 5377480
Abstract: The cutting device proposed has cutting cells (3), located side by side, which collect the items to be cut. Each cell (3) contains a stationary element, which is designed to act as a support for the items to be cut and has a stop edge for the items, and a mobile element (4) which is designed to press the items together in the cell (3). During the cutting process, the mobile element is driven so that it remains substantially parallel to the support edge, and its motion during cutting is tangential to the items being cut. This tangential cutting action enables very considerable reductions to be made in energy consumption and noise generation. The cutting device is suitable for use in grass mowers, agricultural reaping and mowing machines and hedge clippers.

  • Patent number: 5326320
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for forage processing, in order to accelerate its drying process, mown stalk material is fed to rotating pressing elements (7, 7a, 7b), which consolidate the stalk material into a mat of stalk material. In order to produce an inherently stable mat of stalk material, the thickness and density of said mat are to be held constant, independent of the quantity of stalk material supplied by a mowing or collecting means (1), and the forage constituents within the mat are to be better mixed. To this end, the volume of stalk material fed to the pressing means (7) and a conveying speed of the pressing elements (7a and 7b) are continuously transmitted to a control means (20) as measured values, and on the basis of these parameters the conveying speed is reduced by means of the control means (20) in the case of a small quantity of stalk material accumulating (FIG. 1).

The conveying state of grass in the shooter is detected based on the density or amount of cut grass passing through the shooter per unit time, and the mower is decelerated while maintaining the rotation of the cutter blade for mowing and/or the feeding of the air flow into the shooter if the density exceeds a predetermined threshold value. Abstract: An apparatus for harvesting crop parts from a standing crop and leaving stripped stems in the field has a crop stripping rotor under a hood. Grain strikes the underside of the hood, and four or more piezoelectric impact detectors detect the pattern of grain strike density on the hood. Front end grain losses are found, based on the pattern of grain strikes on the underside of the hood. The hood position is adjusted by a ram in response to data measured by the detectors.

  • Patent number: 5195612
Abstract: A lubrication system for a cotton harvester having a plurality of harvesting units. The lubrication system comprises a lubricant source for providing pressurized lubricant to each of the harvesting units to facilitate their operation and a control mechanism for measuring cyclic operations of harvesting units operating components during a harvesting procedure. The control mechanism controls operation of the lubricant source such that the amounts of lubricant provided to the harvesting units during a lubrication cycle is correlated to the lubricant usage of the harvesting units during the harvesting procedure. A salient feature of the present invention relates to a display for visually indicating the cyclic operations remaining for the harvesting units before another lubrication cycle is due to be commenced. The display furthermore provides a visual indication relating to the operating performance of the lubrication system.

Abstract: The crop testing and evaluation system includes a plurality of measuring and testing devices that measure the weight, moisture content, and test weight of a crop. Other measuring devices that test the crop for characteristics such as protein content, sugar content, oil content and color may also be included. Mounting accessories are included in the system for attaching the measuring devices to the crop gathering compartment of a harvesting vehicle. As the crop is harvested and fed to the compartment, periodic readings of the measuring devices are taken by a microprocessor and supplied to a computer for analysis and evaluation. Preferably, the microprocessor and computer are positioned in the cab of the harvesting vehicle within reach of the harvest operator.

  • Patent number: 5155984
Abstract: An implement, such as a cutterbar on an agricultural harvesting machine, is automatically position-controlled to maintain a reference position relative to the ground surface. The implement is mounted so that it may be raised, lowered or tilted and the control is such that tilting movements are preceded by, or are carried out concurrently with, a raising or lowering movement when one end of the implement is at the reference position and the other end is between the reference position and the ground surface. Manually operated UP and DOWN switches not only control up and down movements of the implement but also inhibit and restore automatic control of implement positioning. A set/reset switch enables manual selection of a predetermined reference position or the selection of the present implement position as the reference position.

  • Patent number: 5155983
Abstract: An agricultural harvesting machine having a cutting element movably supported thereon is provided with a height sensor including a transmitter and a receiver mounted for movement with the cutting element. The transmitter directs bursts of sound waves in the range of about 5 KHz toward the ground and echoes of the bursts are picked up by the receiver, the elapsed time between transmission and reception being an indication of the height of the cutting element above the ground. To distinguish between echoes of the bursts and environmental noise picked up by the receiver, the bursts are encoded by transmitting them in pairs, the bursts of a pair being of fixed duration and separated by a fixed interval of time. The duration of each signal and the time spacing between signals is checked and if they are not of the correct duration or are not separated by the fixed interval of time they are rejected as noise.

Abstract: A row crop attachment for forage harvesters has a plurality of row crop divider units arranged side-by-side on a base frame to define a plurality of crop conveying paths through which gathering chains pass for conveying crop material through the crop conveying paths. A pair of rotary knives with cooperating cutting edges are disposed adjacent an entrance of each crop conveying path for cutting off crop material before it is conveyed through the crop conveying path by the gathering chains. A mounting arrangement for each pair of rotary knives includes one knife of each pair of rotary knives fastened to a hub shaft which has a splined connection with a sleeve that is rotatably supported on the base frame.
