  • Patent number: 4833935
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved electric start lawn mower control. The improved control includes a housing having a bail disc and a cable disc pivotally mounted therein, an electric switch secured within the housing and a starter button accessible on the exterior of the housing for actuation by the operator and having an arm which pivots to actuate the switch when the starter button is depressed. The bail disc includes a stop shoulder to mechanically prevent operation of the starter button until the bail disc is moved to its bail down position and the cable disc is moved to the "on" position. The bail disc is interconnected with the cable disc so that movement of the bail disc moves the cable disc to move the cable from its "off" position to its "on" position and release of said bail disc allows said cable disc and its cable to return to its "off" position. Additionally the housing includes the cable and wiring exiting through the same opening.

  • Patent number: 4813214
Abstract: A cable control device for use in connection with a lawnmower throttle control cable or the like is provided which is selectively alterable for positive or negative control action, which maintains the cable in a selected position, and which is adapted for coupling a clutch control bail thereto. The device preferably includes a housing adapted for mounting to a lawnmower handlebar; a body including an operating lever; means rotatably coupling the body with the housing in alternate configurations; and first and second means for pivotally coupling an end of the control cable at respective first and second locations on the body. The device can be used alternatively in a positive action mode whereby forward movement of the operating lever moves the cable forward and in a negative action mode whereby forward movement of the operating lever moves the cable rearward. Additionally, a biased pawl coupled with the housing engages detents formed in the body to hold the cable in a selected position.

  • Patent number: 4805386
Abstract: A bail stop is provided which, when preferably used as part of a lawnmower control system having a U-shaped bail rotatably coupled with a lawnmower handle, prevents forward rotation of the bail beyond the disengaged position. The bail stop preferably includes a circular body with a central shaft-receiving hole; an integral rotation stop tab circumferentially coupled with the body and extending outwardly and perpendicularly therefrom; and a bail-engaging clip coupled with an extended portion of the body and extending outwardly and perpendicularly therefrom on a side thereof opposed from the tab. The clip and the tab are circumferentially spaced apart. In use, the rotation shaft coupling the bail to the lawnmower handle is received in the rotation hole. A support leg of the bail abuts the clip and the tab abuts the handle when the bail is in the disengaged position thereby preventing further forward rotation of the bail.

  • Patent number: 4667459
Abstract: A handle mounted control for the blade brake clutch mechanism and/or the ground wheel drive of a walk-behind rotary power mower. The control requires two distinct actions for actuation. The first action is movement of a deadman lever in the form of a bail from a disengaged to an engaged position. The second action is movement of the control lever from disengaged position to operating position when the deadman lever is in engaged position. Release of the deadman lever to disengaged position releases the control lever from operating position and permits it to return to disengaged position under the biasing force of a cable connected between the control lever and the controlled mechanism on the mower deck.
