  • Patent number: 6827152
Abstract: A rotary head for dethatching machine includes a plurality of channels which are evenly distributed along the outer periphery of the rotary head for receiving flexible dethatching filaments. The dethatching filaments are elongated with a plurality of barb-like protrusions on one end thereof for engagement in the channels of the housings. Once a filament is inserted into a channel, it cannot be pulled out due to the protrusions engaging the interior and exterior walls of the channel of the rotary head. A plurality of rotary heads are mounted on a shaft of a machine. During rotation of the shaft and the rotary heads, the flexible filaments contact the accumulated dethatch with sufficient force to dislodge thatch for later retrieval and clean up.

Abstract: A portable powered trimmer and mounting assembly for mounting on a mower deck or shroud of a lawn mower and including an arm assembly which mounts a powered trimmer head thereon. The arm assembly permits the trimmer head to be positioned in a plurality of cutting positions relative to the mower deck, and resiliently mounts the trimmer head for vertical and horizontal floating movement to allow the trimmer head to track both the ground and the contour of obstacles being trimmed around. The resilient mounting of the trimmer head also prevents damage to the trimmer head due to impact with obstacles encountered in the cutting path.

Abstract: A trimmer wheeled accessory for a gas or electric powered line trimmer used to support the distal end of the trimmer pole during operation. The accessory includes an extension arm that is longitudinally aligned with the trimmer main pole and selectively attached thereto via clamps. The distal end of the extension arm extends from the trimmer head. Attached to the distal end of the extension arm is a wheel assembly that supports and allows the distal end of the extension arm to roll on the ground or grass when cutting grass or weeds. The extension arm is sufficient in length so that the wheel accessory is located in front of the trimmer head. The extension arm may be rotated around the trimmer main pole so that the wheel assembly supports the trimmer head in both a horizontal or vertical alignment.

  • Patent number: 6786030
Abstract: The apparatus is a rotating trimmer head, commonly used with a mower deck combination, but not limited to such a combination, wherein the trimmer head is resiliently positioned with respect to the mower deck for horizontal movement with respect to the mower deck. A resilient member holds the trimmer in an extended position away from the mower deck and allows the trimmer to move to a retracted position adjacent the mower deck when the trimmer meets a fixed obstacle. The rotating head facilitates a smooth engagement between the trimmer head and the obstacle as the trimmer head moves around the obstacle. As a result, an operator may mow in a straight line and do the trimming without interfering with the mower or the main deck.
