  • Patent number: 4944141
Abstract: A height control system is disclosed for use on a harvester and includes at least one lightweight wheel which rides over the crop being harvested at a location forwardly of the vehicle in an undisturbed area of the crop without damaging the crop. The wheel detects upward or downward inclined portions of the ground and controls power means which raises or lowers at least one plant handling component of the harvester for maintaining the component at the desired elevation relative to the ground. The system also includes control means which sense varying ground speed and prevents undesirable jerky raising and lowering of the conveying components in response to the wheel riding over small articles such as rocks at different speeds.

  • Patent number: 4206584
Abstract: A crop harvesting header for a self-propelled combine. The header includes a "floating" flexible cutterbar movable vertically relative to the header frame to cut a standing crop (soybeans, for example) close to the ground to minimize crop losses. The cutterbar is connected to a plurality of runner structures pivotally mounted on the header frame. A spring system is operative on the runner structures to resiliently counterbalance the cutterbar. Structure is adjustably operative on the runner structures to selectively limit the range of movement of the cutterbar or to lock it against movement. Elongated skids are connected between adjacent pairs of runners to effectively extend along the length of the header. The skids are mounted to permit individual movement of the runners relative to each other as the cutterbar flexes over uneven ground across the harvesting path. The skids are selectively shiftable by crank pins to vary the cutting height of the cutterbar.

  • Patent number: 4040238
Abstract: A row crop rogue vehicle for removing rogue crops such as shatter cane, rye, weeds or the like. The seed heads of the rogue crops are taller than the cultivated crops in a field. The rogue vehicle is self-propelled with wheels mounted on the ends of hydraulic cylinders. The cylinders are used for raising the frame of the vehicle above the height of the cultivated crops. The wheels and cylinders are transversely adjustable on the vehicle frame to the direction of travel of the vehicle so that the wheels can ride between the crop rows of fields having different crop row widths. The front of the vehicle includes a cutting sickle and reel for cutting the rogue crops which are conveyed to a storage hopper mounted at the rear of the vehicle.
