  • Publication number: 20020026779
Abstract: A zero-turning radius self-propelled power lawn mower includes a standing platform structure for supporting a standing operator during mower operation. The mower has a combination parking brake and pump lockout structure which, when actuated, simultaneously applies a braking force to rear drive wheels and prevents hydro pumps from being moved from their neutral positions. The mower also includes a biasing system for automatically returning hand control levers to their neutral positions when they are not being manipulated by an operator. Unique cutter deck structure, caster structure, grass catcher structure, and steering control levers are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20020023421
Abstract: In a housing structure for a lawn mower, a rear scroll guide member is provided adjacent and along the width of an entrance of a cut-grass discharge passage, and this rear scroll guide member has upper and lower flanges together defining a channel-shaped concave portion for insertion and retention therein of a front end portion of a bottom plate that closes the bottom of the cut-grass discharge passage. Back plate is provided adjacent and along the width of an exit of the cut-grass discharge passage, and this back plate has a locking hole. The bottom plate has, on its rear end portion, a projection for fitting engagement with the locking hole of the back plate. Thus, the bottom plate is secured to the body of the housing with the front end portion inserted in the concave portion of the rear scroll guide member and the projection on the rear end portion fitted in the locking hole of the back plate.

  • Publication number: 20020002813
Abstract: A rear discharge mower is provided. The mower includes a frame, a drive wheel having a drive axle and a mower deck supported by the frame. The mower also includes a discharge chute used in transporting cut vegetation from the mower deck to a grass bag. A drive system includes a gear reduction device and is used in driving the drive wheel. The gear reduction device is positioned in line with the drive axle. The inventive arrangement of this rear discharge mower provides for a direct chute having a large cross-sectional area and yet including a gear reduction device that is in line.

  • Patent number: 6308503
Abstract: A self-propelled, walk-behind commercial type lawn mower having a frame with a mower deck attached to a front section of the frame, an engine mounted to a rear section of the frame, and a handle bar assembly attached to and extending rearwardly and upwardly from the rear section of the frame. The mower deck includes at least one rotatable wing section pivotally attached to the frame of the mower deck for movement between a substantially horizontal operating position and a substantially vertical non-operating position. The rotatable wing section extends the mowing width of the mower deck and allows mower to travel through narrow passageways of an enclosed mowing area. A locking mechanism secures the wing section in its substantially horizontal operating position and a substantially vertical non-operating position. A rotatable caster wheel attached to the front of the wing section may be retracted to provide maximum clearance when the wing section is in its vertical position.

  • Patent number: 6192666
Abstract: A lawnmower includes a cutter assembly having a cutter deck and at least three cutter blades disposed respectively in first, second and third cutting zones within the cutter deck. The cutter blades are coupled to a power source by a power transmission assembly. A first opening is formed in one side of the cutter deck adjacent the second cutting zone and a closure member is removably mounted on the cutter deck for closing the first opening. A second opening is formed in the cutter deck adjacent the second cutting zone and a conduit is coupled at one end to the second opening and at its other end to a hopper for conducting grass clippings from the cutter assembly to the hopper. A plurality of baffles define portions of the first, second and third cutting zones and are configured to direct clippings from the first cutting zone to the third cutting zone and from the third cutting zone to the second cutting zone.
