Abstract: The level of 2-oxazoline or an oxazine impurity in an isocyanatoalkyl ester of an organic carboxylic acid is reduced by (i) reacting the impurity with an organic acid chloride, a chloroformate, a thiochloroformate, a sulfonyl chloride, phosphoryl chloride, sulfuryl chloride or thionyl chloride and (ii) fractionally distilling the reaction mixture to recover the isocyanatoalkyl ester. As an example, crude 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate (IEM) containing 0.19 weight percent 2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline (IPO) is contacted with terephthaloyl chloride for 0.5 hour at 90.degree. C. The reaction mixture is fractionally distilled to recover 97 weight percent of the IEM containing only 0.02 weight percent IPO.
Abstract: Water-degradable compounds formed from amine-type compounds, aldehydes and aromatic carboxylic acids, the respective components reacting to form a complex ester which upon contact with water slowly degrades to release, at least, the original carboxylic acid.
Abstract: Covers compounds of the formula ##STR1## where R is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or phenyl and R' and R" are either lower alkyl or form a morpholine ring when taken with the adjacent nitrogen atom. Also covers a method of producing a polyurethane foam and elastomer by utilizing said above compounds as catalysts in reacting an organic polyisocyanate with an organic polyester polyol or polyether polyol in the presence of said catalyst.
Abstract: There are disclosed herein derivatives of bisfunctionalized compounds, wherein said compounds have been formed by the introduction of a nitro group and a hydroxyl group in the form of an ester into a conjugated diene molecule by treatment of said conjugated dienes with nitric acid in the presence of a carboxylic acid anhydride. The novel compounds produced by this process are useful as bactericides, fungicides and valuable organic synthesis intermediates.
Abstract: A novel process for producing fluorinated organic compounds containing a difluoromethylene group, essentially characterized by reacting organic compounds containing a carbonyl function with molybdenum hexafluoride at room temperature and under atmospheric pressure.

Abstract: Polyfluoroalkylthio alcohols and esters thereof are disclosed with utility as intermediates for the synthesis of fluorochemicals with low free surface energies having oil and water repellent properties. The novel alcohols and esters are obtained by a free radical catalyzed addition of polyfluoroalkylthiols to acetylenic alcohols or esters thereof. The alcohols are employed in preparation of fluorine containing polyurethanes which are useful as finishes to provide oil and water repellency to textiles and as additives to plastics to provide mold release and other desirable properties.
Abstract: Enamides are prepared by hydrogenating oximes having at least one hydrogen atom at the .alpha.-position in the presence of a carboxylic anhydride using a ruthenium catalyst. These enamides are important to obtain amino group-containing compounds by reduction or polymerization.
Abstract: A method for regulating the elongation of plants so as to increase their resistance to lodging by applying a plant regulating effective amount of a plant growth regulator containing as active ingredient a benzenesulfonamide compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein X, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and n are as defined hereinbelow.
Abstract: This invention concerns novel ester isocyanates derived from acyloxyalkylamine hydrochlorides. The novel compounds may contain a hetero atom in either the acid or alkanolamine moiety and may contain oxalic acid as the acyl moiety.
