  • Patent number: 5436361
Abstract: A process for synthesizing enediynes is provided. Specifically, the formed enediynes contain a hex-3-ene-1,5-diynyl group. Production of the enediynes involves adding a base to a propargylic halide in the presence of a chelating agent, which causes a carbenoid coupling-elimination sequence of the propargylic halides. A carbenoid destabilizing agent can also be added to the reaction mixture in order to enhance yield. Acyclic and cyclic enediynes can be synthesized according to this process. The enediynes are useful compounds that can be used in a variety of applications including use in the production of anti-tumor agents.

Abstract: This invention relates to perfluoroether compounds, and to a general method for creating such compounds. It has been found that such compounds may be created by a three-step method which may be performed using a wide variety of ester starting materials. The first step of the three-step process comprises partial fluorination of a selected polyester compound. This may be performed by contacting the selected polyester with fluorine gas under predetermined conditions until a desired level of partial fluorination is achieved. The second step of this three-step process involves indirect fluorination to convert the partially fluorinated polyester into partially fluorinated polyether compounds. This step may be conducted by contacting the partially fluorinated polyester with SF.sub.4.The third step of the three-step synethetic process comprises direct fluorination of the partially fluorinated polyether compound at conditions which essentially complete the perfluorinated polyether compound.

The four citrate esters are: acetyltri-n-hexyl citrate, n-butyryltri-n-hexyl citrate, acetyltri-n-(hexyl/octyl/decyl) citrate, and acetyltri-n-(octyl/decyl) citrate. Articles formed from the PVC plasticized mixtures are extremely useful in the medical or health care field as they demonstrate a low order of toxicity.

  • Patent number: 4888195
Abstract: Novel ether bridged polyester compositions are disclosed. Two multibasic acids, e.g., citric acid and isomers thereof, are joined by an ether-like linkage. (The citric acid molecule provides an hydroxyl which may be used in the ether linkage.) The carboxyls of the multibasic acid moieties of the new compounds may then have long chain fatty alcohols esterified thereto to provide the subject ether bridged polyesters. The superficial appearance of the polyester portions of the novel compounds is that of a triglyceride; however, upon close examination of the ester linkage, it is apparent that the novel compounds are reverse esters when compared to true triglycerides. It has been determined that a minimum of three reverse ester alkyl chains must be present on the molecule in order to consider it as a fat mimetic. The utility of the disclosed compositions is as a low to non-caloric fat substitute in food products. Additionally, the ether bridged polyesters may be used as lubricants for machinery.
