Abstract: Certain Mannich reaction products (i.e., alkylated phenol, polyoxyalkylenediamine, and an aldehyde) are used to deactivate iron species already present in hydrocarbon fluids. Left untreated, such iron species lead to decomposition resulting in the formation of gummy, polymer masses in the hydrocarbon liquid.

Abstract: This invention relates to an aqueous, acidic composition useful to deposit a corrosion inhibiting and adhesion promoting coating on a metal substrate and a method for doing same. The composition has a pH of between about 2 and about 6 and comprises water-soluble or water-dispersible metal-chelating o-hydroxybenzylamine compound, wherein the amine moiety contains pendant ethanol or propanol moiety.
Abstract: This invention relates to an aqueous composition useful to deposit a corrosion inhibiting and adhesion promoting coating on a corrodible metal substrate and a method for doing same. The composition has a pH of between about 2 and about 10 and comprises water-soluble or water-dispersible metal-chelating diphenolamine compounds.
Abstract: There are disclosed certain aminoethanethiols, and salts thereof, and certain thiazolidines which are made therefrom. The compounds are useful as intermediates in the synthesis of photographic image dye-providing materials.
Abstract: Novel compounds having the general formula: ##STR1## are disclosed, wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group including C.sub.5 -C.sub.22 alkyl or alkenyl; R.sub.3 and R.sub.5 are independently selected from the group including hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl or alkenyl; R.sub.4 is either --(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.z H, or ##STR2## or C.sub.5 -C.sub.22 alkyl or alkenyl; x, y, and z are integers of 1 or more and whose sum is between 2 and 15; and X.sup..crclbar. is an anion, preferably bis-(ethylene)borate. These ethoxylated quaternary benzyl compounds are useful as fabric softeners.
Abstract: Compositions useful as lubricant and fuel dispersants are prepared by reacting an intermediate (A) of the formulae ##STR1## wherein each R is hydrogen or a lower hydrocarbon-based group, Ar is an aromatic moiety having at least one aliphatic substituent of at least 6 carbon atoms and x is 1 to about 10, with an amino compound (B) which contains one or more amino groups having hydrogen bonded directly to an amino nitrogen.

Abstract: Fugitive tints are provided which are characterized by the formula: ##STR1## where R is selected from meta-toluidene, meta-amino phenol, aniline or dimethoxy aniline A is selected from N, O, S, or CO.sub.2 ; the alkylene group of the alkyleneoxy constituent contains from 2 to about 4 carbon atoms; n is an integer of from 2 to about 300; m is 1 when A is O, S, or CO.sub.2, and 2 when A is N; x is an integer of from 1 to about 5; and the product of n times m times x (n.multidot.m.multidot.x) is from 2 to about 400. Also provided is a process for preparing alkyleneoxy fugitive tints.
Abstract: A process is provided for the preparation of p-hydroxy-benzyl-nitriles starting from the corresponding p-hydroxy-benzaldehyde, first reducing the p-hydroxy-benzaldehyde to the p-hydroxy-benzyl amine, a primary amine, with hydrogen in the presence of aqueous ammonia, preferably with the addition of small amounts of lower alkyl alcohol; and Raney nickel catalyst at low pressure; and then converting the amine to the p-hydroxy-benzyl-nitrile by reaction with sodium cyanide at elevated temperature; the first stage, the reduction, is applicable also to o- and m-hydroxy benzaldehydes.
Abstract: Liquid hydrocarbon fuel compositions are provided containing antiknock quantities of ashless antiknock additives selected from 2-(dimethylaminomethyl) phenols substituted in the 4-position with fluoride and methoxy groups. Novel compositions of matter are provided comprising substituted dimethylaminomethyl phenols.
