Abstract: A process for the manufacture of 2,4- and 2,6-diaminotoluenes comprises catalytically hydrogenating the corresponding molten nitro compound in the presence of water, adding hydrochloric acid to form the monohydrochlorides, crystallizing 2,6-diaminotoluene monohydrochloride, filtering it off and, if desired, liberating the free bases by addition of an alkali.

Abstract: This invention provides a process for the production of cyclic hydrocarbons from light olefinic hydrocarbons which involves contacting n-octene feed with a Group VIII metal oxide catalyst in the presence of molecular oxygen at temperatures of 130.degree.-500.degree. C. and a pressure of 1-200 psi to yield vinylcyclohexene and ethylbenzene. The invention further provides a two step vapor phase process embodiment for converting n-octene feed to styrene via a vinylcyclohexene/ethylbenzene intermediate mixture. When nitrobenzene is employed as the oxidizing agent in place of molecular oxygen, aniline is obtained as an additional product.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of non-pyrophoric catalyst having controlledparticle size and activity comprising suspending active charcoal of homogeneous pore distribution in a diluted solution of a palladium salt or salt complex, if desired in the presence of an aliphatic alcohol, stirring the solution, filtering the catalyst coal, followed by treatment of the sorbed palladium salt or salt complex with alkali if desired and stirring it as long as required for the accumulation of the sorbed palladium compounds, reducing same by methods known, repeating the above mentioned steps, if desired any number of times and drying the obtained catalyst after washing.

Abstract: Anthranilic acid has been anchored to polystyrene, and rhodium, palladium, platinum and ruthenium complexes of this modified polystyrene have been prepared. These catalysts will reduce a variety of olefinic and aromatic hydrocarbons, and also nitrile, nitro and carbonyl functional groups, said carbonyl groups being present in either ketones or aldehydes.
