  • Patent number: 11673858
Abstract: Aspects generally relate to a temperature responsive polymer, more specifically to a polymer exhibiting an upper critical solution temperature (UCST) in an aqueous solution. In one aspect, a monomer compound includes one or more amide or thioamide groups; one or more ureido or thioureido groups; and one or more ethylenically unsaturated groups. In one aspect, a polymer, such as a homopolymer or a copolymer, is produced by polymerization of the monomer compound. The copolymer is produced by polymerization of the monomer compound and a comonomer, such as a hydrophobic comonomer, a hydrophilic comonomer, a pH responsive comonomer, a light responsive comonomer, and combinations thereof. The polymer exhibits a UCST from about 1° C. to about 100° C. in an aqueous solution at 1 atm.

Abstract: A process for the production of oxygenated C2 hydrocarbons from cellulose is disclosed. The input cellulose waste is gasified using steam in the absence of air and the primary gaseous products of carbon monoxide and hydrogen are subjected to heat, pressure, and catalysts to form methyl alcohol. Carbon monoxide is added to the methyl alcohol and further subjected to heat, pressure and catalysts to form acetic acid. The acetic acid is purified using a distillation tower, and removed for sale. Output production is increased by adding further carbon monoxide and hydrogen from burners used to heat the gasifiers. Further carbon monoxide and hydrogen are also produced by steam gasification of the carbon residue to promote a water/gas shift. These gases are fed into the gas stream produced by the gasification of cellulose, and provide more feedstock for the reactions.

  • Patent number: 5380942
Abstract: Novel compounds have been discovered that are particularly effective as nucleation accelerators or boosters when employed with hydrazide nucleators in the formulation of silver halide emulsions for lithographic film. The novel compounds contain bis ureido groups joined by an alkyleneoxy moiety or recurring alkyleneoxy moieties. The 2-nitrogen of each ureido group can carry groups comprising hydrogen, aryl, alkyl or dialkylaminoalkyl, alike or different.

  • Patent number: 5274080
Abstract: Inhibitors of human leukocytes elastase are known to be useful in the treatment of a wide variety of antiinflammatory and antidegenerative diseases. In inhibiting elastase, the therapeutic agents are shown to form a characteristic stable complex with the enzyme. In the radioimmunoassay disclosed herein, the inhibitor-enzyme complex is advantageously hydrolyzed and specific product(s) of the hydrolysis are measured utilizing polyclonal antibodies capable of binding to one or more haptens of formula II ##STR1## wherein M is allyl or n-propyl,Z.sub.1 is(a) 5-benzofuranyl or(b) substituted phenyl wherein the substituent is methyl or ethyloxy. The assays utilizing these antibodies are useful in a clinical setting, for determining appropriate dosage and assessing the effectiveness of treatment.
