Abstract: Provided is a novel mercaptomethylphenyl group-containing diorganopolysiloxane compound represented by the following Formula (1):
wherein R1 represents methyl or phenyl; R2 represents a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a phenyl group or A; l represents an integer of 0 to 500; m represents an integer of 0 to 1,000; n represents an integer of 0 to 500; p represents an integer of 0 to 2; and A is a group represented by Formula (2):
wherein X represents a linear or branched alkylene group having 2 to 20 carbon atoms; at least one of R3, R4, R5, R6 and R7 represents mercaptomethyl, and the remaining groups each represent a hydrogen atom or a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms.
Abstract: Radiation-curable compositions, having high elongation at break and toughness after cure can include the following pre-mixture components:
a) a polymer, oligomer or monomer having at least one (meth)acrylate functional group;
b) an oligomer or monomer, exclusive of (meth)acrylate functional groups, having an ethylenically unsaturated functional group; and
c) an elongation promoter;
wherein the composition, after radiation-cure, has an elongation at break of at least about 200%. Glass substrates and optical fibers are coated with the radiation-curable composition. Monofilament fiber or a plurality of fiber filaments, such as sewing thread, are coated with the radiation-curable binder composition, which after cure, demonstrates high elongation at break.

Abstract: Presulfurizing process and presulfurization promoter for a desulfurization catalyst to be used in a hydrodesulfurization unit of petroleum refinery of high molecular hydrocarbons, in which fresh metal oxide in said desulfurization catalyst is sulfurized with hydrogen sulfide produced from sulfur-containing compounds in a feed stream. In the invention, a compound having mercapto alkylthio group: HS—CmH2m—S— (in which “m” is an integer of 2 to 4) is added as promoter at a proportion of 10 ppm to 0.5% by weight and presulfurization is promoted at 180 to 260° C.

Abstract: A highly efficient method of producing alkyl mercaptan and/or dialkyl monosulfides which involves employing carbon dioxide as an internal coolant is described. Abstract: This invention is addressed to antioxidants which are polymerizable using the Ziegler catalyst system. The antioxidant of the present invention has the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each aryl groups containing a hindered antioxidant structure imparting antioxidant properties to the compounds. The compounds of the present invention are useful in the polymerization of olefin compounds using Ziegler catalyst systems whereby the antioxidant of the invention becomes chemically bound to the polymer while, at the same time, imparting antioxidant properties thereto.
Abstract: This invention is addressed to antioxidants which are polymerizable using the Ziegler catalyst system. The antioxidant of the present invention has the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each aryl groups containing a hindered antioxidant structure imparting antioxidant properties to the compounds. Abstract: A process for making alkyl mercaptans in high yield while minimizing the formation of dialkyl sulfides is conducted by reacting an olefin with hydrogen sulfide in an inert solvent (e.g. CH.sub.2 Cl.sub.2) containing a Lewis Acid catalyst (e.g. BF.sub.3). Best results are obtained when the olefin is added to the hydrogen sulfide solution at a rate that keeps the amount of unreacted olefin below about 0.05 moles per mole of hydrogen sulfide.
