Abstract: A wire rope has an independent wire rope core including lubricated individual core wires that are encapsulated in a tubular sheath of elastomeric or polymeric material surrounding the core wires and retaining the lubricant. A plurality of strands are located radially outwardly from and adjacent to the core. Each of the strands include strand wires that are lubricated. The strand wires are encapsulated in a tubular sheath of elastomeric or polymeric material that retain the lubrication for the strand wires. The core and strand encapsulating materials prevent direct metal-to-metal contact between core wires and strand wires, and between strand wires of adjacent strands. The core and strand encapsulating materials are applied in a manner so as to avoid loss of lubricant. Retaining lubrication and preventing direct metal-to-metal contact significantly improves the useful life of the wire rope.

Abstract: A reinforcing steel cord for rubber products, such as steel belted radial tires or conveyor belts, is disclosed. This steel cord is improved in rubber penetration and ageing adhesive force relative to the rubber material. The steel cord is formed by twisting a plurality of brass coated external element wires around a flat and spirally twisted core, with the twisted direction of the core being the same as or opposite to that of the resulting steel cord. In the steel cord, the pitch of the twisted core is set to allow the core to be twisted 0.2 to 2 times within the pitch of the cord, thus preferably forming sufficient interspaces between the core and the external wires in addition to the interspaces between the external wires.

In the wire cable, the core strand has a double-layer twisted strand structure with an F+6+12 element wire structure, and consists of a high-strength synthetic resin filament used as a core element wire (F), six internal element wires primarily twisted around the core element wire to form an internal layer around the core element wire, and twelve external element wires secondarily twisted around the internal layer to form an external layer around the internal layer. Eight external strands, having a single-layer twisted strand structure with a 1+6 element wire structure, are twisted around the core strand to form an 8×7+(F+6+12) element wire structure of the wire cable in cooperation with the core strand. • Patent number: 6318062
Abstract: A wire twisting machine and method provide a randomly varying lay to pairs of twisted wires forming a cable. A pair of wires are fed into a motor driven bow mechanism which twists the wires at a given rate of speed. The bow winding speed is sensed to provide a signal to a control system employing a computer which generates a randomly varying signal between a selected minimum and maximum range. The random signal is applied to an oscillator which provides a varying frequency signal to a power supply unit. A pulsed direct voltage signal then controls a stepping motor which applies the randomly varying lay signal to vary the speed of the capstan winding the wires with respect to the independent bow speed. This varies the length of lay of the twisted wires within controlled limits.

Abstract: A hoist rope for an elevator is formed from synthetic, non-metallic materials. The hoist rope includes a plurality of load-carrying strands with each strand encased within a coating layer. The coating layers provide protection against wear and provide sufficient lubricity to permit relative movement of the strands to equalize loading on the strands. The plurality of strands are surrounded by a jacket. The jacket provides sufficient traction with a traction sheave, transfers traction loads to the strands while permitting movement of the strands, and provides a flame retardant characteristic to the hoist rope. In one embodiment of an passenger conveyor system, the hoist rope is engaged with a traction sheave having a sheave liner. The material for the jacket and sheave liner are selected to optimize the coefficient of friction between the hoist rope and traction sheave.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a high strength steel cord(1) for pneumatic tires, which is produced by the process of drawing high strength carbon steel with carbon content of 0.91.about.2.0% by weight, plating brass on the surface of the carbon steel so that it adheres to the rubber and repeating the drawing and stranding of said carbon steel. In particular, as the steel cord is composed of a filament of two strips, the steel cord according to the present invention is of a higher strength than conventional steel cord, and therefore when it is applied to a tire, the amount of steel cord and rubber topping used can be reduced, thereby resulting in a lighter weight tire, cost savings and lower fuel consumption rate.

  • Patent number: 6076344
Abstract: Process for producing a steel cord for pneumatic tires comprising a bunch of wires, the core of which consists of wire filaments 10 arranged bunched juxtaposed in parallel. Preferably at least three wire filaments 10, 20 are provided, at least two wire filaments located juxtaposed in parallel being spirally shaped as core filaments 10 forming a core 60 and at least one wire filament spirally surrounding the two core filaments 10 as a sheathing wire 20. Spirally shaping the wire filaments 10 is achieved in accordance with the invention by false twisters 40. Due to this spiral shaping of the wire filaments 10 migration of the filaments from the core composite is avoided more particularly. The residual torsional stresses of the core filaments among each other and in conjunction with the restoring forces of the sheathing wire are advantageously cancelled. In addition, the steel cord features to advantage a flattened, more particularly, oval shape.
