Abstract: Methods of and apparatus for advancing a carriage utilize a displacement pump for displacing a selected quantity of fluid. The displacement pump is driven continuously by a motor to provide a series of fluid displacements which are accumulated in a hydraulic cylinder. A ram projecting from the hydraulic cylinder is coupled to the carriage and is advanced stepwise as the individual fluid displacements are accumulated in the hydraulic cylinder. The method and apparatus is especially useful for minimizing banding effects when advancing a carriage which supports a scanning device used in laser printers.

Abstract: A hydraulic pressure actuating system has a master cylinder pivotally mounted to the dash panel in line with the actuator pedal, a remotely mounted hydraulic fluid reservoir assembly positioned at the high point of the system for self-bleeding, and an actuating device actuated by pressurized fluid generated by actuation of the master cylinder. The reservoir assembly uses a fluid flow valve mechanism to control its connection with the fluid passage means of the system. Several types of reservoirs are disclosed, including a siphon tube arrangement and various flexible bag arrangements. The reservoir volume is contained in minimum space by using a sidesaddle reservoir arrangement. Abstract: A durable, frictionless remote controlled manipulator, which is compact, stable, easy to construct, and has good dynamic capability, is a cradle suspension of lever arms, joined by crossed spring hinges to form a parallelogram suspension. The suspension creates vertical motions that have minimal cross-coupled horizontal error. Vertical cross-coupling error that arises at the extremes of parallelogram displacement in the two horizontal axes is hydraulically corrected by the remote controller. Thus, displacements are more nearly mutually perpendicular, and the position of the microtool more faithfully corresponds to the micromter settings. Being compact, the device can be mounted on a microscope stage to minimize cantilevering of the microtool, which is an unwanted source of vibration and also limits the load bearing in larger devices that can only be placed alongside the microscope.

Abstract: The brake system has an apparatus for traction control having a pressure generator. The pressure generator has a longitudinally displaceable cylinder for receiving brake fluid. The cylinder is connected by means of a valve to a pressure course between a master brake cylinder and a wheel brake cylinder. An actuating element is provided for closing and opening the pressure course to the master brake cylinder as a function of the cylinder position. The actuating element, extending coaxially between the cylinder and the valve comprises a tube and furnishes hydraulic communication between the cylinder and the valve. If excessive drive slip occurs, brake fluid can be positively displaced out of the cylinder by longitudinal displacement thereof, and brake pressure can be generated in the wheel brake cylinder. The actuating element assumes a piston function, which enables a structure of the cylinder having a smaller diameter and a long stroke. This makes for more accurate adjustment of the brake pressure.

  • Patent number: 5036751
Abstract: A process for the precise adjustment of the lost travel of a piston in a master cylinder. Master cylinders typically include a number of components in spatial series arrangement, with all components having individual tolerances. The individual tolerances regarding the lost travel of the piston or pistons, can combine additively in the master cylinder. The resulting lost travel, hence, is relatively large and varies with individual master cylinders. The process provides that the lost travel of the piston or pistons in the master cylinder can be precisely adjusted and, hence, can be kept very low. The position of the piston or pistons is measured in the condition in which they just seal the associated equilibrium ports. Subsequently, the position of the pistons is calculated in consideration of the desired lost travels and, by adjustment of the force planes acting on the desired point, the resting position of the piston and pistons, respectively, is fixed to the desired distance.

Abstract: A master cylinder for use in automotive hydraulic brake device has a pressure liquid chamber formed at one side of the larger diameter portion of the piston and a supply liquid chamber formed between the other side of the large diameter portion of the piston and a ring-shaped cup seal. The inner lip of the ring-shaped cup seal is integrally formed at its distal end with an annular projection coming into contact with a cup seal locking member, which is inserted in the large diameter portion of the cylinder and serves to prevent a movement of the ring-shaped cup seal towards the supply liquid chamber, so that the deformation of the inner lip is restrained.

  • Patent number: 4565066
Abstract: The die-casting mold and the die-cast brake master cylinder housing comprise an axial master cylinder piston bore and a compensating bore, whose latter axis extends parallel to the axis of the master cylinder piston bore. The compensating bore has one end terminating in a compensating reservoir port oriented transversely relative to the housing's longitudinal axis and its other end terminating in a sealing chamber that is formed by an extension of the master cylinder piston bore. To render the casting process for manufacturing a die-cast brake master cylinder housing simpler, the mold comprises a core for the compensating bore whose longitudinal cross-sections containing the longitudinal axis are of conical construction, with the narrowest point being adjacent to the compensating reservoir port and whose cross-sections extending vertically to the longitudinal axis are of substantially reniform construction, while the concave sides of the cross-sections are close to the master cylinder piston bore.
