Patent number: 6306110Abstract: A water powered massager 10 comprised of a diviter valve 30 connected to a shower head 20 that diverts water into a hose 40 having an inlet channel 180 and an outlet channel 190 and is connected to a body 60. The water flows from the diviter valve 30, through the inlet channel 180 and into the body 60. Within the body 60 is a propeller 210 inside a propeller cavity 230. As water is introduced into the propeller cavity 230 from the inlet channel 180, it turns the propeller 210 and then exits the propeller cavity 230 back into the hose 40 in the outlet channel 190. The water travels through the outlet channel 190 back to the diviter valve and out to the nozzle 300 of the shower head 20. A flex plate 80 is attached to the body 60 and vibrates as a result of the water inside the propeller cavity 230. As the propeller 210 turns due to the force of the water, it rotates a central pin 220 which in turn rotates a rotating disk 160. The rotating disk 160 is adjacent to and in communication with a pulsating disk 150.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1999Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Inventor: Kenneth D. McElhannon

Patent number: 5738638Abstract: An apparatus useful in combination with a pump source of recirculated tub water for discharging a water stream for massaging a user's body characterized by a flexible water permeable membrane, preferably of terry cloth, mounted in front of a discharge orifice. In use, water stream discharged from the orifice impacts against the rear face of the membrane while the membrane's front face is held against and massages the user's body. The permeability of the membrane permits water to pass therethrough to wet and lubricate the user's skin. The water permeable membrane spreads the impact area to thus provide a softer more pleasing massage effect while minimizing the amount of unwanted splash. The apparatus may also include a shower outlet for selectively discharging a shower spray.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1994Date of Patent: April 14, 1998Inventors: Melvyn Lane Henkin, Jordan Myron Laby

Patent number: 5718668Abstract: A pulsed irrigation handpiece comprises a pulsed irrigation liquid outlet for applying liquid pulses to a surgical site, a pump unit reciprocatingly driveable for pumping pulses of irrigation liquid through the outlet, an electric powered drive unit for reciprocatingly driving the pump unit, and a housing containing the pump and drive units. A irrigation inlet hose leads from the pump unit out of the handpiece housing and is connectable to a remote irrigation liquid source. An irrigation inlet hose adjacent the remote end thereof and electric conductors extending along the irrigation inlet hose transfer electric power from the supply unit to the drive unit in the handpiece. Removable tips are alternatively removably attachable to the irrigation liquid outlet adjacent the front end of the handpiece.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1995Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: Stryker CorporationInventors: Jeffery D. Patent number: 5685851Abstract: An irrigation syringe which is particularly adapted for injecting water into a human body cavity, such as for the cleansing of an ear, includes a pressure regulator unit which is connected to, and supported by, a faucet, and a handpiece including a manually operable valve. The regulator unit includes a supply chamber having an inlet which is connected to a pressure water supply such as a faucet, an outlet which supplies pressure regulated water to the handpiece, and a pressure relief outlet having a check valve which opens to allow water to drain, such as into a sink, when the water pressure inside the regulator unit exceeds a predetermined value. A flow limiting orifice at the inlet to the supply chamber helps smooth out pressure fluctuations from the water supply and provides a steady flow from the supply chamber outlet. Temperature and pressure readouts are provided on both the pressure regulator unit and the handpiece.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1995Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: EAMS Industries, Inc.Inventors: Paul A. Patent number: 5634890Abstract: A water-massaging device provides fluid jet-like action against a body portion of an individual or animal. A flexible manifold peripherally borders a separate fluid channel. The manifold and the fluid channel each connect to a fluid source with respective flexible tubings such that the fluid inflates the device in a secured position about a particular body portion. The channel has arranged thereon a plurality of apertures facing the body portion such that the fluid flowing through the channel penetrates through the apertures to provide massaging and/or therapeutic benefits to the body. The device provides adjustable hot or cold stimulation of the body for increasing circulation or reduction of swelling as well as other therapeutic benefits. Furthermore, an adjustable fluid outlet of the manifold provides adjustable stiffness of the manifold against the body portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1995Date of Patent: June 3, 1997Assignee: Aquasage, Inc.Inventor: Richard S. Patent number: 5634888Abstract: A hand held apparatus particularly configured to derive maximum energy from a tap water supply (typically, .gtoreq.20 pounds per square inch) operating at a low flow rate (typically, .gtoreq.3.0 gallons per minute) to propel a discharge orifice along a travel path while discharging a water stream of sufficient intensity to impact a user's body to provide a pleasing massage. Preferred embodiments are characterized by a handle housing and a head housing mounted for relative movement with respect to one another for operating an internal mode selector valve. The selector valve directs the supplied tap water to either a hydromassage outlet or a shower spray outlet (e.g., continuous or pulsed spray).Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1993Date of Patent: June 3, 1997Inventors: Melvyn L. Patent number: 5527275Abstract: A system for cleansing a patient's ear is disclosed. This system contains a control unit, a portable applicator, and a means for modifying the flow of fluid from the device when temperature or pressure limits are exceeded. The control unit contains a heater and control means for maintaining the temperature of the liquid within certain limits, for limiting the pressure of the liquid, and for varying the flow rate of the liquid. The portable applicator contains a handpiece, a nozzle which is connected to the fluid source and is mounted on the handpiece, and a means for providing a signal to the control unit.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1994Date of Patent: June 18, 1996Inventor: Irwin A. Patent number: 5517705Abstract: A back scrubbing device is adapted to be secured to a shower wall. The device includes a main housing that has front and rear walls, opposing side walls and top and bottom walls. The front wall has a plurality of perforations formed therethrough and the top and bottom walls each have an opening formed therethrough. A water supply hose has one end connected to the opening in the bottom wall of the main housing and the opposing end is secured to a shower head or bathtub faucet for supplying water to the device. A brush is secured to the front wall of the main housing and has a plurality of apertures formed therethrough. The apertures in the brush are aligned with the perforations in the front wall of the main housing so that water can pass therethrough. A container for holding liquid soap is mounted in the main housing. The container includes a dispenser extending from the top wall of the housing for dispensing the liquid soap contained therein.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1995Date of Patent: May 21, 1996Inventor: Horace L. Patent number: 5387181Abstract: A lounge chair accommodating an occupant in a reclining position while exposing him to a stress-relieving environment. The chair includes a couch whose frame supports a bed formed by an array of parallel dowels contoured to define an intermediate posterior region having extending therefrom a front thigh and leg region and rear back and head region. The bed contour is adjustable to conform to the natural contours of the occupant. The couch is mounted on a base and is angularly adjustable thereon. Supported on the frame below the bed is a water trough contoured to define an intermediate sump section having extending therefrom front and rear waterfall sections, each provided with a set of deflectors so situated as to cause the flowing water to cascade into the sump section. Coupled to the trough is a pump supplying water to the input of the front and rear waterfall sections, the water collected in the sump section being returned to the pump and recirculated.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1992Date of Patent: February 7, 1995Inventor: Robert J.
