  • Patent number: 10166150
Abstract: A compression device can treat edema with a number of curved shells, each having an internal pad. A ligature network employing tensioners is routed across the shells for compressing them. Tensioners on at least some of the shells can separately adjust tension in different portions of the ligature network. The ligature network is (a) releasably mounted on the shells, and (b) repositionable to allow spatial adjustment of compression forces produced by the compression device. By adjusting the routing of the ligature network across the shells, tailored compression forces are provided. With a body part embraced by the padded shells, tension is separately adjusted in different portions of the ligature network to provide different compression forces at spaced positions along the plurality of padded shells.

  • Patent number: 10039663
Abstract: Some implementations of the described invention relate to systems and methods for applying a total contact cast to a patient for treatment of a wound on an appendage, such as a leg or foot. While the cast system can comprise any suitable component, in some cases, it includes a clam-shell cast, a foot support defining (or customizable to define) an offloading hole, and a cast underlayment (such as a compression sock, a padding sock, and/or additional padding). In some implementations, a first length of the clam-shell cast is applied to a patient's calf, a second length of the cast is applied to across a patient's foot, and a third length is folded up over the patient's foot to extend up a portion of the patient's calf. In some cases, a strap or wing is used to attach the first and the third lengths together. Other implementations are also described.

Abstract: A moldable ankle flexible brace is disclosed. The flexible ankle brace may include a heat-moldable, multi-layer leg support portion, a heat-moldable, multi-layer foot support portion, a pair of hinges connecting the leg support portion to the foot support portion, an opening for receiving a user's ankle, and a closure mechanism. The flexible ankle brace may include a middle layer that is substantially stiff at a temperature below about 130° F. and moldable at temperatures above 130° F. Also disclosed is a method of using a flexible ankle brace to treat an ankle. The method may include, for example, heating the brace to above 130° F. placing the heated brace on a patient's ankle and molding the brace to conform to the shape of the patient's ankle.
